Carson City sheriff’s arrest log: Suspects jailed on assault, stalking and warrant charges

A 41-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday on felony charges, battery with a deadly weapon and possession of marijuana with intent to sell, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Christoper Matthew Couch is being held on $35,000 bail. According to the arrest report, officers were called to the 3800 block of South Carson Street regarding two people arguing. Dispatch advised they were getting several 911 calls and one of the reporting witnesses said one of the men hit the other.

Dispatch further advised both men got into separate vehicles and they were chasing each other. One of the vehicles was described as a white sedan with a black hood. The other vehicle was described as a gray SUV. Dispatch then spoke with one of the individuals involved who was reporting a battery had taken place.

Sgt. Cullen responded to the area in an attempt to locate the vehicles. He found the white Sedan on Saliman Road and Fairview and made contact with Couch. The officer asked the man what was going on. The man said he got into an argument with another subject that tried to spit on his vehicle.

He said he took out a Maglite flashlight to defend himself because he has medical issues. He said he pointed the flashlight at the man but denied ever hitting him with it, the arrest report states.

The victim said Couch hit him with the flashlight on the left cheek. Officers observed minor bruising that appeared to be fresh. The victim stated he wanted to press charges on Couch and signed a citizens arrest form.

Couch was asked permission for a search of his vehicle. The man agreed and officers found a jar with multiple baggies of marijuana. The man told officers the baggies and pot belonged to his cousin who has a medical marijuana card. Officers later weighed the baggies and pot, which amounted to 2.8 ounces. He was arrested on suspicion of felony assault and drug charges.

In other felony-related arrests:
— A 31-year-old Reno man, Brandon Fedinic, was arrested Saturday, 6:49 a.m. in the 1200 block of East Fifth Street on a felony charge of aggravated stalking.

According to the arrest report, officers met with a victim Nov. 20 who stated that her former boyfriend, in which they had been broken up for approximately a year, had called and texted her 24 times.

The man allegedly sent threatening text messages stating that he was going to ruin her life and would do everything he could to make her miserable, the arrest report states. Also in a text message he told her that he would set a truck on fire that was parked in front of her residence.

The victim stated she knew he had driven by her home that evening because the truck he was referring to had only been parked recently in front of her home, the arrest report states. She stated that in the past year she has filled out police reports and obtained restraining orders against the man for threatening and harassing her. She stated law enforcement has been unable to serve him because he had not been located, the arrest report states.

As officers were speaking with the victim, the man called the woman on her cell phone. An officer answered the phone and Fedinic hung up. Approximately 2 minutes later he called back again.

The officer answered the phone. Fedinic stated he would talk to the officer if the phone was put on speaker mode. He stated he would not stop harassing the woman until she returned his motorcycle boots, GED diploma and clothing items. The woman stated she had none of his belongings, the arrest report said. The woman said she returned his paperwork containing the GED diploma to his mother months ago. The officer asked the man if he had checked with his mother. He stated yes and then stated “not really,” the arrest report states.

The officer informed the man that he needed to stop harassing the woman. Fedinic stated he would not stop until he was put into a “pine box,” the arrest report states.
The officer asked the man if he was suicidal or making threats toward the officer. The man stated he was not going to fall for the officer’s trap and then hung up the phone, the arrest report states. The officer attempted to contact him but he was unable to be reached.

The investigating officer made contact with the woman later in the morning and obtained a restraining order against the man. She showed officers her cellular phone where she received a text message from the man at approximately 2 a.m. referring to Hawaii Circle. He left a voice message. The officers listened to the voice message of the man making gun fire noises and then hanging up, the arrest report states.

The DA was advised a warrant was issued from a judge Nov. 21 for Aggravated Stalking. Fedinic Brandon was arrested Saturday morning. Bail: $20,000.

— A 42-year-old Carson City woman, Stephanie Collins, was arrested Saturday, 9:43 a.m. in the 1700 block of North Carson Street on suspicion of three felony charges: possessing a credit card without consent, possession of a controlled substance and parole and probation violation. She also faces three misdemeanor drug paraphernalia charges.

According to the arrest report, Collins and a 27 year-old man were in a vehicle that was stopped for driving with a broken tail light. Officers knew Collins had a felony warrant for her arrest. During a search of the woman’s purse officers found two hypodermic devices, a spoon with white residue and a small baggie of methamphetamine. She is being held without bail awaiting a hearing on the felony warrant charges. The 27-year-old man with her was arrested on misdemeanor charges of obstructing and two counts violation of bail conditions. Bail: $6,412.

— A 27-year-old Reno woman, Alicia Lopez, was arrested Friday, 2:31 a.m. in the area of Rand and East William Street on a felony warrant issued out of Reno Justice Court alleging she passed a series of bad checks. Bail: $5,000.

— A 19-year-old Carson City man, Brent Martin, was arrested Thursday, 6:20 p.m. According to the sheriff’s deputy report, officers were responded to the 2000 block of Carriage Crest for a fraud report.

Upon arrival officers met with the victim who said he was notified by the court that he had a court date for a traffic citation that he received Nov. 2, 2014. The man told officers he did not receive a traffic citation on that day. Officers then learned the suspect was Martin.
Officers went to the jail where Martin was already being held for a parole and probation violation. Officers spoke with him, advising him of his Miranda rights and he signed a waiver form agreeing to speak.

He told the officer that he had in fact given a deputy the victim’s information when he was stopped. He told the officer that he gave the deputy the information because he knew that he had a warrant from Parole and Probation and didn’t want to go to jail on that day. He was arrested for giving false information to avoid prosecution. Bail: $10,000.

In other arrests: A 35-year-old Reno woman was arrested on Friday on suspicion of petit larceny, battery, and a warrant for trespassing.

According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to a grocery store in the 3300 block of Highway 50 East on a report of a larceny. Loss prevention had detained the woman for allegedly shoplifting and she had become uncooperative.

Loss Prevention noted they watched the woman enter the store, select a loaf of bread, spinach dip, a box of feminine products, with an aggregate value of $10.03. She ate some of the bread and opened the spinach dip.

The woman passed all additional points of pay and exited the store. Loss Prevention approached the woman, who became argumentative. Once inside the woman began making suspicious movements. Loss prevention officers could see a knife sheath in her purse and were afraid she had a weapon. The woman was placed into handcuffs. Loss Prevention said the woman began to fight, elbowing the security guard in the chest, kicked him in the knee and attempted to kick him in the groin. He was able to subdue her and place her into cuffs.

Officers spoke with the woman and read her Miranda rights in which she said she understood and waived. She admitted to eating the bread, dip and using feminine hygiene products in the store bathroom. The officer asked her why she fought with loss prevention. She stated the man was rude to her and thought they had no reason to detain her. She admitted to fighting with the store security officer. The woman was taken to jail. A records check also showed the woman had a warrant issued for her arrest out of Sparks for trespassing.

— A Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 12:22 p.m. in the area of Lee and Peters streets on misdemeanor charges of obstructing a police officer and disorderly conduct. Officers were called to the location to check on the welfare of a man said to be heavily intoxicated and wandering through the streets. Officers attempted to speak with the man, who became aggressive, would not provide his name, and was yelling in the street. He was arrested for disorderly conduct. At jail he became physically uncooperative with jail staff and was escorted to a safety cell where he proceeded to kick and scream profanities. Bail: $654.

— A 29-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 6:45 p.m. on suspicion of gross misdemeanor possession of a dangerous weapon and misdemeanor contempt of court, a warrant, issued Nov. 11, 2014 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $7,500.

— A 19-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 5:22 p.m. in the 1200 block of Crain Street on a misdemeanor warrant, failure to appear, issued Nov. 20, 2014 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $500.

— A Carson City man was arrested Friday, 11:02 p.m. in the 400 block of East Park Street on a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant issued Sept. 3, 2014 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $215.

— A 19-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday, 2 a.m. in the 1900 block of North Carson Street on misdemeanor charges, violation of pretrial conditions and minor consuming alcohol. Bail: $3,232.

— A 43-year-old female transient was arrested Friday, 5:14 p.m. in the 200 block of West Caroline Street on a misdemeanor charge of trespassing. Bail: $242.

— A 33-year-old transient was arrested Friday, 6:05 p.m. in the 1700 block of Edmonds Drive on a misdemeanor warrant, contempt of court, issued Nov. 18, 2014 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $1,000.

— A 38-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday, 3:36 p.m. in the 1400 block of North Carson Street on a misdemeanor charge of DUI. The woman allegedly crashed her car while intoxicated, according to the arrest report. The woman admitted to officers that she had been drinking and that she was drunk. She asked the officers to drive her home. She was asked to participate in field sobriety tests in which she showed several signs of impairment. She submitted to a preliminary breath test where she blew a .232, the arrest report states. Bail: $1,137.

— A 20-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 8:55 a.m. in the 4700 block of East Nye Lane on a misdemeanor warrant, contempt of court, issued Feb. 19, 2013 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $292.

— A 21-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 1:21 p.m. in the 2000 block of Lone Mountain Drive on a warrant, contempt of court, issued Aug. 19, 2014 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $353.

— A 26-year-old Douglas County woman was arrested Sunday 1 a.m. in the 900 block of East Fifth Street on misdemeanor charges of DUI, driving without a valid driver’s license and open container in a vehicle. According to the arrest report the woman had been following another person who contacted dispatch advising that she was being followed, the arrest report states. Officers made a traffic stop after seeing the vehicle and observed the passenger in the car throw two cans of beer, Tecate and Bud Light, into a landscaped area of the parking lot.

The woman gave a partial preliminary breath test resulting in a .12. Dispatch advised she did not have a valid driver’s license. She was arrested and taken to jail where she submitted to breath tests of .117 and .107. She was charged with DUI, driving without a valid license and open container. Bail: $1,521.

— A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Sunday in the 900 block of Fifth Street on suspicion of four misdemeanor charges: two counts violation of pre-trial conditions, stalking and open container. The man was told by Alternative Sentencing that he was not to have contact with the victim of an alleged domestic battery. He arrived at the residence and then followed the victim’s family members around Carson City in a vehicle driven by a friend. Bail: $8,692.

Those arrested and facing criminal charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
