A Carson City man and woman were arrested Thursday and face multiple gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor charges after police officers conducting a warrant service discovered that both individuals were intoxicated while caring for an infant.
The officers approached the residence and knocked for several minutes before one officer checked a window they believed they’d seen movement out of. A woman appeared, holding an infant estimated to be around one year of age, and gestured for the officer to come to the door; when the officer informed their partner of the situation, the woman instead opened the window and knocked the screen out and began to plead with the officers to enter the residence, as the male occupant would not let her leave.
When officers forcibly entered the residence, they discovered an empty bottle of liquor, a marijuana pipe, and a mason jar containing a small amount of marijuana. The woman told officers that the man had been pressuring her to drink and smoke and she gave in to stop the harassment. When both individuals were discovered to have blood alcohol levels over the legal limit for persons under 21, the officer determined that the child was in a state of endangerment.
The man and woman, both 20 years of age, were arrested at 9:15 p.m. Thursday in the 1750 block of Russell Way. They both face gross misdemeanor charges of child endangerment and/or neglect, minor in possession of alcohol, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Additionally, the man had a contempt of court warrant in his name, issued out of the Carson City Justice Court on Jan. 20. Bail: $8,900 for the man, and $4,250 for the woman.
The child was placed with their maternal grandmother with permission of Child Protective Services.
