The Carson City Sheriff's Office will step up DUI patrols for the coming Memorial Day weekend beginning Friday through May 27.
For the holiday period stretch there will be heavy saturation patrols for DUI drivers, a DUI checkpoint, and enforcing underage drinking laws. The purpose of these activities is to ensure that drivers in Carson City are safe and sober going into and during the holiday weekend, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Darrin Sloan.
Memorial Day is typically the kick off for summer activities and the first weekend of summer vacation for many area schools. It is important to the Sheriff's Office to be able to report no serious injuries or fatalities on Tuesday morning following a successful and safe long weekend, said Sloan.
"If you are underage do not drink alcohol. If you are drinking please use a sober designated driver or cab. For everyone on the roadways please use your seat belts, it's the law and does save lives," he said.
Sloan notes the Carson City Sheriff's Office has a zero tolerance for DUI driving and underage drinking.
