A head-on crash on Highway 50 near Flint Drive in Carson City late Thursday morning sent three to the hospital via air ambulance, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.
The two-vehicle crash, reported at 11:43 a.m., happened in the eastbound lane and involved a silver 1999 Mitsubishi four-door sedan occupied by a male driver, who crossed the center turn lane and struck the front of a 2010 White Kia Soul sedan, occupied by a male driver and a female passenger, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen.
All three were taken by helicopters, two by CareFlight and a third by Calstar. They were taken to Renown Medical Center in Reno.
Allen described the condition of the Mitsubishi driver as being the most critical, with the two in the Kia suffering serious injuries. All three had to be extricated.
Highway 50 in both directions had been closed, however crews from the Nevada Department of Transportation have diverted westbound traffic onto a dirt road, while eastbound traffic has been diverted onto Flint Drive, Allen said.
It is too early to tell if drugs or alcohol are factors in the crash, Allen said.
