Carson City woman jailed after allegedly beating elderly woman, kidnapping child

A 23-year-old Carson City woman faces three felony charges, including attempted kidnapping and battery after she allegedly beat an elderly woman and then grabbed a 5-year-old girl from a courtyard, carrying her until witnesses were able to free the child.

Laura Elizabeth Rees-Dauer, is being held on $100,500 bail. The incident happened Saturday, Oct. 19 in the area of 20 College Parkway in Carson City. The arrest was made at 4:59 p.m.

According to the arrest report, officers assigned to the Special Enforcement Team responded to a call of a fight in the area of 20 College Parkway. A woman called authorities and stated that her husband was involved in a fight with a female subject in the courtyard. The woman was later identified as Rees-Dauer.

Officers found Rees-Dauer attempting to kick the door in to an apartment. Officers detained her and conducted the investigation. She smelled heavily of alcohol and appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance, the arrest report states. A records check of the woman revealed that she was on supervision with the Department of Alternative Sentencing. She was taken to jail.

In the investigation, officers learned that a couple were in their apartment at around 4:35 p.m. when Rees-Dauer rang the doorbell several times. The witness opened the door and Rees-Dauer began to yell at her and use profanities, the arrest report states. The witness closed the door and locked it.

Rees-Dauer then attempted to kick in the door to the apartment. The witness then yelled out to her husband to assist her. He went out side to see what the problem was.

Once he arrived downstairs he watched Rees-Dauer attack an elderly female outside the apartment, choking and punching her in head and face, ripping the glasses from her face and gouging her eyes. The attack was also witnessed by neighbors.

A male witness broke up the attack and Rees-Dauer fled the area. As she was leaving Rees-Dauer allegedly pulled down her shirt and exposed her breasts to the the victim and witnesses, the arrest report states.

Three witnesses then followed the woman and watched as she approached a 5-year-old child who was playing in the grass in front of the building. Witness told authorities that the woman picked up the girl in her arms and ran more than 50 yards to a flight of stairs. The woman attempted to carry the child up the building stairs, but fell causing a laceration to the child's lower back, the arrest report states.

The three men were able to free the child from the woman, who then ran upstairs to an apartment occupied by a man. The man listened from inside his apartment as the woman attempted to kick the door in and screamed at him from the outside, the arrest report states.

Officers arrived at the scene and detained the woman. Witnesses were asked if they had ever had contact with Rees-Dauer before or knew the woman. Each stated they had not.

Rees-Dauer faces the following felony charges: attempted kidnapping, attempted home invasion, and battery with intent to commit mayhem; gross misdemeanor indecent exposure, child abuse, neglect, endangerment and contempt of court.
