A Fallon man was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday on Highway 50 at the intersection of Pine Cone Road in Dayton. The man's wife sustained moderate injuries. Both were taken to Renown Medical Center in Reno via Care Flight, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The preliminary crash investigation details indicate a 1998 gray Chevrolet Blazer driven by a 17-year-old male a resident of Dayton along with a 17-year-old female passenger of Dayton were traveling eastbound on Highway 50 attempting to make a left turn from onto Pine Cone Road in front of a 2005 silver Toyota Scion that was traveling westbound on Highway 50, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson. The vehicle was driven by Maria F. Hodgdon, 61, along with passenger Thomas D. Hodgdon, 55, both of Fallon.

The Chevrolet Blazer failed to yield to oncoming traffic and made a left turn in front of the Toyota were it was struck in the passenger side causing it to overturn, said Gibson. The occupants of the Toyota Mr. and Mrs. Hodgdon, were flown to Renown via Care Flight. Mr. Hodgdon sustained serious injuries and Mrs. Hodgdon sustained moderate injuries, said Gibson.

It is believed that Mr. Hodgdon was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. The occupants of the Chevrolet were treated and released at the scene of the crash to their guardians. Alcohol or drugs are not a factor in the cause of this crash, said Gibson.

Both of the westbound travel lanes and one eastbound were shut down for several hours while the crash scene was investigated and diagramed. However, traffic was being diverted around the crash scene through the center turn lane. This area of US 50 is two lanes in each direction with a center turn lane and the speed limit is 45 mph.

Trooper Tina Konrad of Nevada Highway Patrol Carson City station is investigating this crash.
