Carson City man jailed for meth possession after being stopped for swerving on bicycle

A 53-year-old Carson City man faces a felony drug charge after being arrested early Thursday morning in the 1500 block of North Carson Street.

Tony Cervantes is being held in Carson City Jail on $2,854 bail. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of failure to appear on a traffic warrant and not having bicycle reflectors and lamp while operating at night.

According to the arrest report, officers on routine patrol on North Carson Street witnessed Cervantes riding a bicycle going north on Carson Street, riding in both the number one and number two lanes, swerving abruptly. His bike didn't have a head lamp or a rear red reflector on it.

The arresting officer stopped Cervantes just after midnight in front of a liquor store and informed him the stop. Cervantes told officers that he swerved because his sandals slipped off the pedal, the arrest report states.

Cervantes identified himself to officers and provided personal information. A wants and warrants background search of the man determined that he had an outstanding warrant, failure to appear, issued on April 16, by Judge Tatro.

Due to the warrant, officers arrested Cervantes. During the search process, the arresting officer uncovered a torn wrapped piece of envelope in his left front pocket of his pants. Inside the wrapped up envelope was crystal methamphetamine. Cervantes was read his Miranda right in which he spoke with the officer, telling him that he had just bought the meth before being stopped. He was taken to jail without incident.

In other arrests:

A 32-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Thursday morning in the 3000 block of Highway 50 East. The arrest was for being in violation of his probation.

According to the arrest report officers responded to the area on a call of a possible fight. The reporting party told dispatch there were two people next to a blue truck and one of them was punching the truck.

Officers arrived and saw the 32-year-old man grossly intoxicated, unsteady on his feat and smelled of alcohol from his breath. He told the officer there wasn't a fight but he was punching the side of his truck. He said he was upset about the death of his fiance who passed away a few months prior. He cried as he told about his fiance, repeating that he was upset about her passing. The side of the man's truck was dented on the rear driver door. Dispatch said the man was on Alternative Sentencing with a "no alcohol" clause. he submitted a breath test to officers in which he blew a .278.

Alternative Sentencing said they wanted him arrested for a violation of his probation. He was taken to jail and booked. Bail: $1,000.

— A 59-year-old Carson City woman turned herself into Carson City Sheriff's Office authorities Wednesday, 4:20 p.m. The woman had a failure to appear warrant for her arrest issued on June 25. Bail: $737.

Those arrested and facing charges are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
