Carson City deputies arrest woman after prescription drug find

A 41-year-old Carson City woman faces felony drug and misdemeanor obstruction charges after officers found bottles of prescription drugs that didn't belong to her.

Deputies arrested the woman following a traffic stop in which a female driver was clocked doing a 40 in a 25 mph zone on Friday at about 2 p.m. An officer asked for identification from the suspect, who was the passenger in the car. The name, date of birth and Social Security number she gave officers didn't match anyone in the Nevada or California database.

Officers asked the suspect to step out of the car. In doing so they saw a pink purse under the passenger floor mat where she had been sitting, according to an arrest report.

The driver said the purse didn't belong to her. The officer asked the suspect if he could look through the purse to see if there was an identification stashed in it. The woman, who called herself "Tammie" said that it wasn't her purse. The officer asked the driver if she consented to looking through the purse. The driver agreed to the consent. The officer picked up the purse and found an open 16-ounce can of Tilt 8 percent high-energy alcohol malt liquor and an Nevada ID with the woman's real name on it. The officer ran the name of the woman and learned she had a confirmed felony warrant for probation violation. The woman was cuffed.

The officer continued to look through the purse and found two prescription tablet bottles of lithium/300 milligram with another woman's name on it that wasn't the suspect. Both bottles listed to have 60 tablets. A single tablet of Hydrocodone was found in another bottle.

The driver of the car gave the officer consent to search the vehicle. The arresting officer called for a K9 unit. Inside the trunk of the car were suitcases that belonged to the woman. Officers found five bottles of prescription meds, three with the woman's name on it, one with no name on it and one bottle with the driver's name on it. Inside the bottles contained different tablets, not all of the same prescription, according to the arrest report.

The woman was taken to Carson City Jail. She faces a felony warrant for probation violation in Washoe County and is not to be released on bail. She also faces a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor obstruction charge.
