The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified a Dayton woman as the passenger killed in a single vehicle accident Saturday morning in Carson City in the area of Highway 50 and East Nye Lane.

Leatrice Drew, 82, died from injuries at the scene in the rollover accident, reported at around 8:55 a.m. Her husband, Daniel Drew, was also injured. It is unknown if the couple were wearing seat belts properly, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson.

The crash investigation details indicate a 2009 White Nissan Versa driven by Daniel Drew, 83, and was traveling westbound on Highway 50 approaching the intersection of East Nye Lane in the right lane when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle drove off the roadway and onto the North dirt shoulder. Mr. Drew lost control of his vehicle as it ran into a ditch and rolled.

The vehicle landed on its wheels in the ditch at the intersection of Highway 50 and E. Nye Lane. Mrs. Drew was pronounced deceased at the scene. Mr. Drew was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center by Care Flight with serious injuries.

The westbound lanes were closed for a short time while NHP investigated the accident. Traffic was diverted into the center turn lane.

Alcohol or drugs are not a factor at this time. The accident is still under investigation. That area of highway is two lanes in each direction with a center turn lane. NHP says the speed limit is 45 mph in the area but some Carson Now readers note it is 55 mph.

Trooper Douglas Hildebrand of the Nevada Highway Patrol Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating this accident. Witnesses or anyone with additional information are encouraged to contact him @ (775) 689-4623 or dhildebrand@dps.state.nv.us regarding case number NHP- 140802715
