Arrested were Christoper Schumacher, 33, and Frazier Young, 29. According to the booking report, deputies were dispatched to the office of the Nevada Department of Parole and probation on Old Hot Springs Road for an unknown problem. A lieutenant at the office directed a receptionist to call the police and gave no further information.

Upon arrival deputies met with a parole and probation officer on the east side of the building. They were standing behind a maroon 1992 Mercury Tempo. Deputies spoke with the officer and learned the vehicle was speeding and driving recklessly through the parking lot. They stopped the vehicle to speak with the driver. There were three other passengers in the vehicle, including Schuamacher and Young.

Deputies were familiar with the men from prior investigations. Deputies instructed the passengers to exit the vehicle and conducted a pat down for weapons, while Parole and Probation was completing the investigation.

Deputies used drug detection canine, Ivo, to conduct an exterior free air sniff of the vehicle. Ivo alerted to the presence of drug odor at the rear right passenger door of the vehicle. Pursuant to the exterior alert, Ivo sniffed the interior of the vehicle and alerted again to the back seat area of the car. There were two backpacks in the back seat. The officer removed them and the dog detected a presence of drug odor on both backpacks, the arrest report states.

The officer searched both backpacks and found several items of drugs and paraphernalia. In Schumacher’s backpack officers found: Several marijuana and methamphetamine pipes with residue; a hypodermic device which appeared to be loaded with methamphetamine in liquid form, approximately 50 empty baggies; two spoons with drug residue, and an eyeglass case with a trace amount of meth inside; two knifes — one large buck knife and a smaller pocket knife and approximately two grams of marijuana.

The deputy also searched Young’s backpack, which was identified by paperwork inside the backpack and located two grams of marijuana and a suspected marijuana pipe.

After the search the deputy took the men into custody. They where seated against a nearby brick wall. The deputy approached Schumacher, who began to resist immediately by pulling both of his hands away. The deputy told him to stop and the man did not comply. He appeared to try and put something into his mouth. Fearing he was attempting to destroy evidence, the officer took him to the ground by controlling his head and upper body.
