Carson City man jailed; accused of beating and choking pregnant girlfriend

A Carson City man was arrested Sunday and faces a felony charge of domestic battery with strangulation after allegedly punching his pregnant girlfriend in the stomach and then choking her.

Aaron Patrick Allen Lane, 38, was arrested at 12:42 a.m. in the 2400 block of Poole Way. Lane also faces a misdemeanor charge out of Walker River Township for failure to pay fines associated with domestic battery.

According to the arrest report, officers spoke with the victim who said Lane had come home earlier in the night with a 40-ounce beer and was intoxicated. She told officers they began arguing and that's when Lane began to slap and beat her.

The woman, who informed officers she was 7-weeks pregnant with the man's child, told deputies that Lane held her down on the bed and began to choke her, grabbing her throat with both hands then then pressing his thumbs into both sides of her neck. She said he then began to punch her in the stomach, the report states.

The woman's injuries were swelling and reddening on her face and neck consistent with being slapped and choked, the arrest report states. She said that she did not have any marks on her abdominal area, the report states.

Lane was arrested and booked on the felony domestic violence charge and failure to pay fines associated with domestic violence. Bail: $16,234.

In other felony-related arrests:

— A 37-year-old Carson City man faces felony burglary and misdemeanor domestic battery charges after being arrested March 22, 10:32 p.m. in the 1800 block of North Edmonds.

Michael Bruce Roberts, also known as "Casper," was being held on $23,000 bail. According to the arrest report, officers assigned with the Special Enforcement Team responded to a battery call at a Lompa Lane address.

The victim stated Roberts, a former roommate, came to the home and snuck in through the sliding glass door, confronting him in his bedroom. Roberts reportedly kicked and punched the victim several times before leaving, the arrest report states.

There were obvious signs of contusions and lacerations on the man's face and head as well as a moderate laceration to the man's thumb, the report states. In the victim's statement to police, he said that he was in his back bedroom tuning his guitar when Roberts suddenly appeared in the doorway telling the man: "You knew this day was coming," the arrest report states. This comment is in reference to a letter that Roberts had received in which his ex-girlfriend tried to induce a romantic relationship with the victim, the report states.

The victim stated that as he attempted to stand up, Roberts began to punch him in the face, striking him on the side of the head two to three times, the report states. The victim stated he then tripped and fell backwards and Roberts then kicked him hard in the head leaving a large contusion and laceration.

The victim said Roberts then picked up a glass end table and attempted to smash it over the victim's head but he blocked it and the glass table lacerated his thumb. The victim stated the man then kicked him a few more times and then he walked out of the room.

Roberts was located at an address in the 1800 block of North Edmonds and arrested.

— A 71-year-old Carson City man, with at least two DUI convictions, was arrested March 22, 8:30 a.m. in the 700 block of North Division after he collided with a building.

Michael G. Austin is being held on $10,000 bail. Officers made contact with the man after he hit the side of the building. The man stated he didn't know where he was at, possibly South Lake Tahoe, and that he had urinated himself. Officers smelled alcohol from the man's breath, his eyes were red and watery and he spoke slow and nonsensical, the arrest report states.

He was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation then taken to jail where he was booked on the DUI felony charge.

In misdemeanor related arrests:

— A 30-year-old Cost Mesa, Calif., woman turned herself into the Carson City Sheriff's Office on Sunday, March 24, on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for her arrest. The Carson City Justice Court warrant, issued Dec. 16, 2012, was for possessing a hypodermic device. Bail: $5,000.

— A 39-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, March 24, 4:28 a.m. at the intersection of Roop Street and faces several misdemeanor charges including driving under the influence with a DUI conviction.

According to the arrest report, officers spotted the man in blue Ford Ranger turn South on Stewart Street from eastbound Telegraph street, crossing the double yellow line, then swerving back into the No. 1 lane. The vehicle then crossed the center line again, and served back. When a patrol officer activated his emergency lights the vehicle continued east and then pulled into the east rear parking lot of 505 Roop Street then came to a stop in a dirt field east of the apartments, the arrest report states.

Officers made contact with the driver who had red, watery eyes, slurred speech, alcohol on his breath. The man told officer he drank a few beers prior to driving. Officers asked him to do a series of field sobriety tests. He could not do the tests as demonstrated, according to the arrest report. A PBT showed him to be well over .08, and a computer check showed a prior DUI conviction in July 2012 out of Carson City Justice Court.

He faces charges of DUI (second); driving without a valid license, failure to maintain lanes, illegal right hand turn and violation of a suspended sentence. Bail: $3,891.

— A 20-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, March 24, 1:56 a.m., in the 3000 block of Bonnyview and faces two misdemeanor charges of violating conditions of bail and minor consuming alcohol.

According to the arrest report officers were called to the area after a report of someone in the backyard of a residence. While en route, the reporting party told dispatch they could hear voices from the backyard and possibly damage to a fence.

Upon arrival officers found the man laying on his back on the south side of the residence near the side fence. He sat and and verbally identified himself. While talking with him, officers could smell a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, and he had red, watery eyes, the report states. He said he was 20 years old. He was arrested for minor consuming alcohol. A computer check showed him to be under the supervision of Carson City Justice Court Alternative sentencing, with two active cases. He refused to submit to a PBT test and was taken to jail. Bail: $6,000.

— A 35-year-old Carson City man was jailed Saturday, March 23, 12:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Corbett on a contempt of court warrant. The man was known to have a warrant and was seen in the area of Corbett and Carson Street and was later found hiding inside an apartment unit. He was taken to jail. While in jail he provided a preliminary breath test of .300. Bail: $3,000.

— A 39-year-old Stagecoach man was jailed Saturday, March 23, in the 100 block of Corbett for being in violation of his probation. While deputies were looking for another subject on a warrant, officer spotted the 39-year-old who also had a warrant. The man was intoxicated and blew a .120, the arrest report states. Bail: $3,000.

— A 22-year-old Carson City man was arrested March 22, 10:19 p.m. in the 300 block of East William and faces misdemeanor charges of failure to appear for traffic court and contempt of court.

Officers stopped the car, which turned into a bar, because the license plate light of the vehicle was not functioning. Officers ran a wants and warrants search on the passenger in the vehicle which came back with two confirmed warrants out of Carson Township. Bail: $682.

— 27-year-old Carson City man was arrested March 22, 5:22 p.m. in the 1500 block of Continental Drive and faces charges of possessing drug paraphernalia and being in contempt of court.

According to the arrest report officers assigned to the Special Enforcement Team were doing a followup investigation of a petit larceny at Kohls. One of the suspects involved had a confirmed warrant for his arrest.

Upon arrival at the Continental Drive address the man was outside the residence having an argument with another man. Both men were detained. The 27-year-old man was read his rights and he agreed to speak with the arresting officer, the police report states.

As the officer was speaking to the man, he observed several text messages scroll across his screen regarding drug sales. The officer asked the man about the messages and the man stated that he does not have nay drugs on him or inside the house. He stated that the officer could do a search of the residence with a K9 for contraband. Officers also got consent from the man's wife and her parents.

An electronic scale with drug residue on it was located in a drawer in the man's room. Bail: $1,874.

— A 25-year-old Sparks was brought to the Carson City Sheriff's Office from Washoe County on March 22 on a warrant for failure to pay fines. Bail: $316.

— A Carson City man was arrested March 22, 6:35 a.m. in the 400 block of North Saliman and faces misdemeanor charges of being an intoxicated pedestrian and open container.

According to the arrest report officers responded to a local church regarding an unwanted subject who walked into the church. He was told to leave. He then walked out in the road toward Mills Park. Officers made contact with the man who was in possession of an open bottle of vodka. A preliminary breath test on the man showed .300. He arrested and faces charges of being an intoxicated pedestrian and open container. Bail: $264.

— Those arrested and face charges are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
