NHP identifies Michael Shields of Carson City in Nov. 11 motorcycle crash that killed pedestrian

The Nevada Highway Patrol has released the name of the victim in a Nov. 11 motorcycle crash on Stewart Street in which a Carson City man died while attempting to cross the road in a crosswalk.
Michael Shields, 66, died after being struck by a motorcycle driven by a Minden man at the intersection of Telegraph and Stewart streets. He was an employee of Cactus Jack's. Employees at the casino held a memorial for Shields on Nov. 25. Go here for the story.

NHP had been waiting to officially release the name of Shields because it had trouble locating family members.

The crash investigation details learned so far show a 1999 Blue Harley Davidson Motorcycle ridden by Michael Trute, 61, of Minden, was traveling southbound on Stewart Street at the same time Shields was crossing at the intersection of Telegraph in the illuminated crosswalk when he was struck by the motorcycle. The motorcycle rider was ejected from the bike and Shields was killed from the crash.

Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the cause of the accident. It is still under investigation.

Trooper Doug Hildebrand of the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team is investigating this incident.
