A Carson City man was arrested Saturday evening on suspicion of felony domestic battery with strangulation and resisting officers, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Edward Dale Chaney, 26, was arrested at 8:49 p.m. at a residence on East Roland Street where he and the victim were staying. According to the arrest report, deputies received a call from the suspect's father stating his son and girlfriend were arguing and he was fearful that the situation would escalate.

Upon arriving at the residence, deputies repeatedly attempted to contact the reporting witness, knocking on the door and calling on the phone. Unable to verify the welfare of the caller or the victim, deputies began a search of the outside of the property until they located a set of keys in the snow.

Using the keys to gain access to the garage, deputies found the victim in what appeared to be a living area furnished with a bed and a space heater. She had injuries to her head, neck and shoulders, the arrest report states.

The victim stated the father and son had gotten into an argument and Chaney began to hurt himself with a metal trash can lid. When the victim attempted to stop Chaney, he allegedly pinned her to a bed and began to punch and choke her. Then began to inhale Dust-off, according to the arrest report. The father intervened and they left the property, returning a short time later where the suspect was arrested.

As deputies began to lead Chaney to a vehicle, he began screaming for his father and resisting arrest. Deputies forced the suspect into the vehicle and he was taken to jail without further incident. In addition to the felony strangulation and misdemeanor resisting a peace officer, Chaney was arrested for his second incident of domestic battery, the last on occurring April of last year. Bail: $25,300.
