I Love Carson City’s Father’s Day Weekend Event Summary: June 20-21

The solstice couldn’t come at a better time: we need some long days to get through all the fun stuff Carson City has crammed into one weekend. The annual Powwow at the Stewart Indian School runs Friday through Sunday, so you’ll have plenty of time to see the dancing, peruse the crafts, and eat an Indian Taco. Don’t miss the Fly-in and Open House at the Carson City Airport: fun for the whole family. And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention one of Carson City’s favorite events: the Taste of Downtown. Music, food, and more from Carson Mall to Williams Street. Have a great time, and be safe.

SATURDAY:

• Bike the West: Tour of Carson Valley, BBQ and Ice Cream Social: begins and ends at Mormon Station Park, Genoa (same day registration 8am-9:30am; 44/60 mile Ride 8:30am; 20 mile Hike and Bike Tour 9am; 6 mile Beginner Mountain Ride 9:30am; 11 mile Family Fun Ride 9:30am; BBQ 11:30am-2pm; please email Registration@BiketheWest.com if you will be registering Friday or Saturday)
• Reno Rodeo (Ticket prices range from $12 - $27) and Carnival (12pm-12am) at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center
• Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser for the Youth Theater Carson City Showstoppers at Applebee's (8am-10am; $10)

• Wildflower Walks: Two hour Leisurely Guided Hike at Spooner Lake State Park (10am; Children under the age of 16 and pets should not take this hike; Entry to Park is $10 per vehicle, with a $2 discount for Nevada residents; SPACE LIMITED, RSVP 775-749-5980)
• Virginia and Truckee #25 Steam Engine Rides at the Nevada State Train Museum (10am-4pm; $8, $4 kids 11 and under)
• Father's Day Virginia and Truckee Round-trip Steam Train Rides -leave from Carson City Eastgate Depot: on Flint Drive, off U.S. Highway 50 East at 10am- Depart Virginia City Depot 3pm (tickets limited, $52, seniors and veterans $48, kids 3-16 $32)

Saturday morning is a great time to find some treasures. Genoa welcomes you to their annual Community Garage Sale. Head over to the Silver State Charter School for a flea market; it will be there Sunday, as well. The Farmers Market on Third and Curry is awash with fresh fruits, veggies, artisanal foods, and more.

Dangberg Ranch, off Highway 88 in Minden, is kicking off their Summer Concert Series with the Nighthawks. Bring a chair or blanket, and the whole family.
