The Nevada Highway Patrol says alcohol is suspected in a crash Tuesday night involving a motorcyclist in which an adult man died while crossing an intersection after he was struck by a motorcycle at Stewart and Telegraph streets in Carson City.
The crash investigation details learned so far indicate a 1999 Blue Harley Davidson Motorcycle ridden by Michael Trute, 61, of Minden was traveling southbound on Stewart Street at the same time a male pedestrian was crossing at the intersection of Telegraph and Stewart in the illuminated crosswalk when he was struck by the motorcycle, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson. NHP was called to the crash at 5:25 p.m.
The motorcycle rider was ejected from the bike and the pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene. The motorcycle rider was transported to the Renown with serious injuries.
The speed limit in this area of Stewart Street is 35 mph and there is spot roadway lighting. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the cause of the accident. The name of the pedestrian is being withheld until the next of kin has been notified.
Trooper Doug Hildebrand of the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team is investigating this incident.
