Carson City authorities arrested a Minden woman Sunday for drunk driving after she was seen leaving her dog at the parking lot of PetSmart and then returning to pick up the animal.
A Carson City reserve officer witnessed the event at about 6:30 p.m. and called dispatch to report the driver. The reserve deputy observed the woman driving away from PetSmart without her dog, and then returning, driving erratically, from one parking space to another looking for the pooch. Outside of the vehicle, she appeared to be stumbling and had trouble maintaining her balance, the arrest report stated.
The reserve officer, who noticed a strong odor of alcohol, reached into the woman's vehicle and took the keys out of the ignition, the report stated.
The arresting officer spoke to the woman, who found the dog earlier and put it in the back of her car. The woman became upset that she was not allowed to leave and repeatedly told officers that she hadn't been drinking. The arresting officer could smell alcohol and the woman's speech was slurred, according to the report.
The arresting officer then asked to see the woman's license, which she produced. The woman was asked to exit the car and she refused. Instead of complying the woman began to apply lipstick, according to the arrest report.
The officer continued to ask her to step out of the vehicle. She then picked up a glass in the car, which contained what appeared to be white wine, and took a drink, the report stated.
The officer asked the woman to give her the glass and the woman refused saying "it's only water." She then held the glass away from the officer and allowed her dog to lick out of the container, according to the arrest report.
The officer then reached through the rear window and recovered a half full glass which smelled like wine, according to the report. The woman was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. After she was cuffed and placed into a patrol car, she began to kick the passenger rear metal window protector, according to the arrest report.
The officer warned the woman that if she damaged the patrol car, he would charge her with destruction of property. The woman kept on kicking, according to the report.
The woman was taken to jail where she was read the Nevada Implied Consent warning. The woman refused to submit to breath or blood samples and yelled: "I haven't been drinking." She denied any history of hemophilia and advised she did not know what it was, the report stated.
A phlebotomist was called to the jail. The woman refused to allow blood samples to be taken and had to be held down as blood was drawn. The woman apparently struggled with jail deputies throughout the process, according to the report.
The woman faces misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence, open container and obstructing an officer.
