The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has identified the two deceased females that were discovered dead in Voltaire Canyon on Thursday, Dec. 6. Next of kin notifications are complete.
The women are Monique Evans, 20 and Sandra Leggett, 24. Autopsies have been performed on each.
Both females suffered close contact single gunshot wounds to the temple causing death. Toxicology reports are pending and not expected to be returned for 6-8 weeks. No other injuries were discovered and investigators, along with the officials at the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office, reported no other indications of struggle. The weapon used, retrieved from the immediate proximity of the two bodies, was identified as a .38 caliber revolver pistol. Final reports on the weapon are pending.
Records on file at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office disclosed that a warrant for arrest existed for Ms. Monique Evans for failure to comply with counseling and to provide proof of community service directed by the Carson City Courts for previous drug charges.
Investigators reported that an examination of Ms. Sandra Leggett disclosed suspicious healed injuries to her arm that were suggestive of prior suicidal attempts, commonly referred to a hesitation marks. All of the injuries were healed and scared. Records reflected a history of drug charges.
At this time, the Sheriff’s Office Investigation Unit continues to believe that the two females were alone on the hillside all night and that death likely occurred late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. There remains no evidence to suggest that a third person is being sought after. While alcohol was found at the scene, evidence of consumption will remain questionable until toxicology reports are received. There were no notes or suggestions of suicide located at the scene.
