A 24-year-old Carson City man faces a felony charge of attempting to cash a counterfeit $100 bill at a casino in the 500 block of North Carson Street.

Kevin Frederick Repass was arrested Jan. 24, at 5:32 p.m. According to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report, security at the casino detained Repass for trying to break the phony $100 bill, asking for $20 bills. He told casino security that he had received the $100 bill from another casino, the report states.

Officers read Repass his Miranda Rights and he agreed to speak. He first told officers that he had no idea the bill was counterfeit and was very surprised when he was notified, according to the arrest report.

Repass then told officers that a friend, "Derek" had given him the bill under very random circumstances, without a reason and without discussion, the report states. Repass said he thought the incident was weird but did not think too much about it, claiming he had no idea the bill was fake.

Officers asked the man why he accepted the bill without any questions and Repass said he had no idea other than a past incident where "Derek" had damaged his car. He further told officers that he thought the bill may have been meant as a payment for the incident, the report states.

The man was asked by officers why he decided to attempt to cash the bill instead of make a purchase with it. The man said he didn't know. Officers advised Repass that his story was not believable. Repass became nervous and asked to speak with the Carson City Sheriff's officer without casino security in the room. The security officer stepped out and the officer proceeded with the interview, the arrest report states.

Repass then changed his story and said he had been hanging out with a friend who he used to work with who reported that $100 was missing from his wallet and it was thought that "Derek" took the money. For whatever reason, the bill somehow wound up in his backpack, the arrest report states.

According to the arrest report, officers said Repass was nervous recounting this version of the story and was advised by arresting officers to tell the truth. He later admitted that he knew the bill was counterfeit and then further admitted to trying to cash it for real money.

He was taken to jail. In a search drug paraphernalia was found. Bail: $6,000.
