An unemployed Carson City woman faces a felony grand larceny charge after admitting to stealing a woman's purse from a local casino, splitting the cash inside of it with a friend, and then buying alcohol and cigarettes.

Roseann Owens, 48, is being held on $10,000 bond at Carson City Jail. According to the arrest report, at about 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, the woman was seen leaning on the glass doors at the Carson City Sheriff's Office on Musser Street. The woman appeared to be distressed and an officer asked her what was wrong.

According to the narrative provided by the arresting officer the woman told the officer that she had done something wrong and wanted to turn herself in. The officer asked her what she had done. The woman replied that on the previous night she had stolen a person at the Horseshoe Club.

The officer asked if she would like to speak about it and the woman agreed. She went inside the lobby of the sheriff's office and the arresting officer read her the Miranda rights. Owens agreed to speak, according to the report.

The woman said that she had been inside the Horseshoe Club the previous night and stole another woman's purse. As she left the casino, she said she went to the Nugget and met with a friend and showed her the purse. The female friend and Owens checked the person and found a cell phone in which she threw away, the report stated.

The two then left the casino and went to a liquor store on Winnie Lane where the two purchased some alcohol and cigarettes. Later the two left the location and went to the friend's house at 20 College Parkway. While on the way to the last location of the liquor store, the friend demanded from Owens some of the large amount of cash in the victim's purse. The friend collected about $200 from the proceeds as she asked for "her cut" according to the arrest report.

The pair began drinking and smoking near the friend's apartment when Owens walked over to the North Carson Save Mart where she bought several items. Owens then paid for the items with her food stamps and some of the cash from the victim's purse, according to the arrest report. Owens estimated the amount of cash in the purse to be between $500 and $600.

The woman told police that she went home at which time she found a deputy's business card on the kitchen counter. In the morning, after speaking with her daughter, she realized that after the incident, deputies had already identified her as the suspect and had gone to her house where they questioned the woman's daughter, according to the arrest report.

During the day, Owens said she thought about turning herself in. She also said she had called and left a message for the first responding deputy, according to the report. During the interview, Owens continuously admitted that stealing the purse was wrong and said she was ready to take her punishment, the arrest report stated.

Based on the woman's admission, positive identification and producing the stolen purse minus about $300 cash, Owens was arrested and booked into jail for felony grand larceny, the arrest report stated. During the interview, the woman denied having used any of the victim's credit cards or personal checks, the arrest report concluded.
