Two northern California men were arrested early Sunday on felony drug charges after a high risk traffic stop netted more than 120 grams of methamphetamine, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Anthony John Vannata, 26, of Sacramento and Setrak Mourandian, 34, of Belmont, Calif., were taken into custody at 12:23 a.m. Sunday. Each were booked on suspicion of trafficking and transportation of schedule 1 drugs with bail amounts of $200,000 bondable each.

According to the arrest report, Carson City Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team received information about a shipment of methamphetamine coming to Carson City. SET was informed that Vannata and another man would be driving a black Cadillac CTS from the San Francisco Bay Area. Officers were told the suspects would be coming from South Lake Tahoe to Carson City via Highway 50.

The vehicle was located heading eastbound from Highway 50 toward Carson City. A detective pulled behind the vehicle and followed eastbound from Spooner Summit. The vehicle did not have a visible registration and was driving around 60 mph in a 50 mph zone.

Just after midnight deputies activated a high risk traffic stop. SET officers boxed the vehicle in and detained both men. A records check of the Vannata, the driver, showed he did not have a valid license. Mourandian informed a sheriff’s sergeant that there were drugs in vehicle and they belonged to Vannata, the arrest report states.

A K9 conducted an exterior sniff of the vehicle with the dog alerting to drugs. A search was done in which a large bag of crystal methamphetamine was found. Also recovered was a glass methamphetamine pipe. The drugs were weighed and amounted to 121.4 grams in the packaging, according to the arrest report. Both men were arrested and taken to jail without incident.
