Carson City sheriff’s log: Deputies make separate felony assault arrests involving knives

A 53-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday on felony charges after allegedly threatening his roommates with a knife and preventing one of them from calling 911 dispatch, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Shaun Roy Petrusa was taken into custody at a home in the 3100 block of Surrey Lane. He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon involving a victim more than 60 years of age and preventing a victim from reporting the crime. According to the arrest report, officers were called at 3:11 p.m. to the location regarding a domestic dispute and the suspect armed with a knife.

Deputies detained Petrusa, who was intoxicated and had a .231 breath alcohol content. Officers learned the man was upset because he had run out of beer and became aggressive with his roommates, asking them for beer. When he was told no, the suspect told one of the roommates that he was going to put him through a wall, the arrest report states.

A female at the residence said she was going to call 911. The suspect responded by grabbing a steak knife from the kitchen and threatening to stab the male victim who was five feet away, the booking report states. The female victim said Petrusa continued to make threats and said that he would mess up her life if she called 911. He was arrested at 4:08 p.m. on felony charges. Bail: $25,000.

— A 22-year-old Carson City man, Ryan Shaw Smith, was arrested Tuesday, 7:42 p.m. in the 1100 block of Siskiyou Drive on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon. According to the arrest report, officers made contact with the victim who said his stepfather became angry with him while they were having dinner and that the suspect took a knife from the kitchen, pointed it at him and then walked toward him in a threatening manner. The victim stated he feared the man was going to stab him but the suspect then put the knife down.
Deputies interviewed the suspect who admitted that he grabbed a kitchen knife and pointed it at the man, and then realized what he was doing was wrong and stopped. Bail: $20,000.

— A 38-year-old Carson City man, Justin Douglas Snyder, was arrested Wednesday, 7:52 a.m. in the 3800 block of Highway 50 East on a felony burglary warrant and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to the arrest report, a deputy was at a casino investigating an unrelated crime and recognized the suspect from prior contacts and recalled seeing his name on a warrant list for burglary. When asked if he had any weapons on him, the man replied he had a meth pipe in his back pocket, the arrest report states. The pipe had some methamphetamine residue in it. Bail: $21,137.

— A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 11:56 p.m. in the 3200 block of Imperial on a gross misdemeanor charge of child endangerment and misdemeanor domestic battery.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to a residence for a domestic battery and that the suspect was armed with a knife. Deputies detained the man and spoke with the victim who said she and her husband had an argument because he wanted to have sex and she did not. The victim told deputies the man slapped her in the face, pulled her hair and kicked her in the leg as she was holding their 1-year-old son.

The woman called 911 and the man obtained a kitchen knife and stabbed the wall in the kitchen but did not threaten her directly with the knife, the report states. Both had been drinking. The suspect had a preliminary breath test of .12. The victim had visible injuries to the left side of her face. The man denied hitting the victim. Bail: $5,774.

— An 18-year-old transient was arrested Thursday, 12:28 p.m. in the 3200 block of Market Street for gross misdemeanor possession of a concealed weapon and destruction of property. According to the arrest report the man was observed using a knife to cut open a cell phone package at Walmart that resulted in damage to the phone, making it unable to be sold.
Deputies approached the man and asked if he had any weapons. The man said he had a knife. The knife was a switchblade variety with a blade of more than 2 inches, the arrest report states. Bail: $3,137.

— A 31-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 7:19 p.m. in the area of Brown Street and Highway 50 East on misdemeanor charges of driving on a revoked license, no proof of insurance and speeding. The man was stopped for speeding, going between 50 to 58 mph in a 45 mph zone, passing a patrol deputy. During the traffic stop the deputy learned the man was driving on a revoked license. Bail: $1,509.
