An award-winning musician and producer was arrested Thursday near a Lake Tahoe casino after drug enforcement officers found nearly 58 grams of methamphetamine on the man, according to a Tri-NET task force officer.
Members of Tri-NET, which works in cooperation with Carson City and Douglas County sheriff's offices and Nevada Department of Public Safety Investigations Division, along with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Street Enforcement Team, arrested Randy Cantor on suspicion of trafficking a controlled substance greater than 28 grams, sales of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and possession of a controlled substance.
He was arrested at a casino parking lot in Stateline after an investigation revealed he would be transporting two ounces of methamphetamine from California into the Stateline area at the south shore of Lake Tahoe, the officer said.
Cantor was found to be in possession of 57.9 grams of methamphetamine, the Tri-NET officer said. Cantor was booked into the Douglas County jail.
In 2002 Cantor won a Latin Grammy award in 2002 as producer of the Best Rock Solo Vocal Album. He has worked as an arranger and producer for several well known musicians.

— A 48-year-old Dayton man, Gibb Olivarez, was arrested Thursday, 2:29 p.m. in the 3800 block of Highway 50 East on suspicion of felony DUI with prior felony conviction, probation violation and being a non-resident driving on a suspended or revoked driver’s license, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, a deputy with the Carson City Special Enforcement Team was alerted to a call from dispatch regarding a possible DUI driver at the Carson City Landfill.
The officer went to the area and saw the suspected vehicle and pulled behind it in an unmarked patrol car. The deputy observed the driver had failed to maintain its turn lane, crossing into the opposite turn lane and then nearly hit a vehicle in the opposite turn lane. The officer activated his emergency lights and a traffic stop was made in the parking lot of a casino.
The deputy made contact with the driver and passenger and observed an ice chest with beer on the bench seat in between them. The officer spoke with the driver who appeared to have been drinking and asked him if he would be willing to participate to standardized field sobriety tests. The man agreed and showed signs of impairment on several tests.
He was asked if he would conduct a preliminary breath test. He agreed and gave one sample with a result below .08. A Parole and Probation officer arrived on scene and informed the deputy that the man was on probation with a “no alcohol” clause.
Due to his performance on the standardized field sobriety tests, he was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI. Parole and probation conducted a urine test on the man that showed positive for Benzodiazepines and cocaine. A blood test was requested and two vials of blood were taken. Bail: $20,637.
— A 36-year-old Silver Springs man was arrested Thursday, 8:05 a.m. in the 1200 block of Woodside Drive on a misdemeanor warrant, injury to property, issued out of Dayton Township Court. Bail: $1,495.
— A 54-year-old Fernley man, was arrested Friday, 1:35 p.m. in the area of Sherman and Viking streets in Carson City on two misdemeanor warrants for violation of an an extended protection order and violation of bail conditions. Bail: $9,000.
— A 26-year-old Dayton man was arrested Saturday, 12:37 a.m. in the area of Highway 50 and Nye Lane on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI, driving without a valid driver’s license and failure to maintain a lane of traffic.
According to the arrest report, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong had stopped a vehicle driving approximately 60 mph in a clearly posted 45 mph zone. Furlong observed the driver failed to maintain its lane two separate times, crossing over the white lane line to the right and over the dotted white lane to the left. The sheriff advised the arresting deputy that the man did not have a valid license and that he could smell and odor of alcohol coming from the driver, who later admitted to having two drinks.
A deputy made contact with the driver and observed signs of impairment. He asked if he would perform standardized field sobriety tests and the man agreed. He showed signs of impairment on the tests and provided a preliminary breath test of .113. He was placed into custody on suspicion of DUI. At jail he provided two evidentiary breath tests registering .082 both times. Bail: $1,416.
