Carson City Sheriff's Office weekend arrest log

A 23-year-old Carson City man faces felony burglary and drug charges after allegedly walking out of Kohl's department store Sunday with merchandise, a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy said.

Jac Michael Owen was arrested after store security observed him take a t-shirt and two pairs of shorts into the fitting room and then exiting with them concealed. The security guard stated the man then left the store without attempting to pay for the items, leaving in a 2002 Chrysler Prowler.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on the man and detained him in a nearby supermarket parking lot. He was wearing the two pairs of stolen shorts and the stolen shirt under his clothing, the arrest report states.

He was read his Miranda right and waived them. Officers informed him about why he was taken into custody and asked him if the extra clothes under his clothing were stolen from Kohl's. He replied yes, the arrest report states. He was asked if he bought anything inside the department store. He said he had not. He was asked how many times he had been convicted of petit larceny. The man stated twice but said he wasn't exactly sure, according to the arrest report.

The officer asked the man if he had any cash on him. He stated he had about $100 cash that was in his wallet. Officers searched the vehicle and located a small case with hypodermic devices, cotton swabs and two spoons, which appeared to have heroin residue on them and tested presumed positive on a NIK test. The spoons were booked into evidence as well as video footage of the incident.

Owen's criminal history includes four prior arrests for petit larceny, a warrant for petit larceny out of Reno, and admitted to possibly being twice convicted, the arrest report states. He faces the following charges: felony burglary, possession of a controlled substance, petit larceny and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $6,474.

— Two Carson City men, Ian Leftwich, 18, and Richard McCoy, 19, were arrested May 31, 12:36 a.m. at Hot Springs Road and East Nye Lane on felony drug charges. A Carson City deputy with the Special Enforcement Team stopped the vehicle the two men were in because it didn't have its headlights on.

The men were asked if they had been drinking. Leftwich said he had not but had taken an Adderall, the arrest report states. The officer asked for consent to search the vehicle and he agreed. Officers discovered about a gram of methamphetamine in a baggie, the arrest report states.

After he was Mirandized, Leftwich stated he got the drugs from McCoy who had given him the baggie after the traffic stop was initiated. McCoy requested to speak to a lawyer. Leftwich faces a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor DUI drugs. Bail: $3,637. McCoy faces a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance. Bail: $2,500.

— A 49-year-old transient, Lloyd Benjamin Pearson, was arrested May 31, 1:49 a.m. in the 2100 block of Lone Mountain Drive. He faces a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and gross misdemeanor possession. Bail: $7,500.

In misdemeanor-related arrests:

— A 23-year old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, June 1, 2:38 p.m. in the 3800 block of Imperial Way on a warrant for contempt of court. Bail: $500.

— A 61-year-old Carson City woman was arrested May 31, 10:14 a.m. in the 100 block of Koontz Lane for allegedly shoplifting shoes from a store. She faces a charge of petit larceny. Bail: $352.

— A 28-year-old Carson City woman was arrested May 31, 2:05 a.m. in the 3100 block of Woodside Drive on suspicion of DUI, second offense. A Carson City sheriff's SET officer observed the woman driving too fast, failing to stop at a stop sign and nearly striking parked vehicles on the side of the road.
According to the arrest report, the officer asked the woman if she knew why he had stopped her and the woman replied with slurred speech, "I'm home now, it doesn't matter right?" the arrest report states.

The woman attempted to give the officer money from her wallet. The officer told her he didn't want money but her driver's license. The woman then removed more money from her wallet and attempted to give it to the officer, according to the arrest report. The woman told the officer that she did not have a license with her.

The officer noticed a odor of alcohol coming from the woman. He asked her if she had been drinking and she told the officer she had not. The woman agreed to perform standardized field sobriety tests in which she failed several of the tests. She was given a preliminary breath test with a result of .19. Bail: $2,637.

— A 42-year-old Carson City woman was arrested May 31, 3:26 p.m. at Fairview and Butti streets. She faces the following misdemeanor charges: Parking more than 18 inches from the curb, driving on a suspended driver's license, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of a suspended sentence. Bail: $2,846.

— A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested May 31, 11:10 p.m. in the 800 block of East Musser Street on a failure to appear traffic warrant out of Reno Township Court. Bail: $343.

— A 40-year-old Carson City woman was arrested May 31, 7:30 p.m. on misdemeanor charges of violation of a restraining order and violation of a suspended sentence. Bail: $2,137.

— A 54-year-old Carson City man was arrested May 31, 11:10 p.m. at the intersection of West Winnie Lane and North Ormsby Road on suspicion of DUI. Bail: $1,137.

— A Carson City man was arrested May 30, 8:06 a.m. in the 700 block of Linda Kay Court. He was arrested on a misdemeanor warrant of contempt of court, violation of bail conditions, failure to report for color code test issued May 23, 2014.

— An 18-year-old Carson City woman was arrested May 30, 11:14 a.m. in the 3100 block of Imperial Way on a charge of domestic battery. According to the arrest report, officers were called to the location after a report that a woman was fighting with family members.

Officers arrived and found three men bleeding from the forearms. The woman apparently was upset when she was told repeatedly not to remove items from a moving truck. The family was in the process of moving and packing the truck and the woman, who was looking for something, kept moving the boxes out of the truck.

After numerous boxes were thrown from the truck, the step father grabbed the woman by the arm attempting to escort her from the truck. The step father said once he placed his hand onto her arm the woman began to attack him, swinging her arms and with her fingernails cutting into his right forearm. When two brother-in-laws attempted to intervene, she used her fingernails on their forearms, causing them to bleed.
The woman was arrested on a charge of domestic battery. Bail: $3,137.

— A 66-year-old Fort Shaw, Montana woman was booked into Carson City Jail on May 30, 3:35 p.m. on a misdemeanor warrant for battery. Bail: $250.

— A 50-year-old man was arrested May 30, 8:31 p.m. in the 1100 block of East William Street on misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct, trespassing and obstructing an officer. $906.

— A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested May 30, 10:04 p.m. at the intersection of Fairview Drive and Kansas Street. He faces misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and violation of a suspended sentence. Bail: $4,874. A 21-year-old woman who was with him was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $1,137.

— A Carson City man was jailed May 30, 4:04 p.m. on two outstanding misdemeanor warrants out of Sparks Municipal and Reno Township Courts. Bail: $1,334.

Those arrested and facing charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
