The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe is pleased to announce that the 2016 Pyramid Lake War Memorial Celebration will take place on Friday May, 20th in Nixon, NV. The Tribe would like to invite the public and their families to participate in the annual Sunrise Ceremony and the Eagle Staff Run walk/run along the Truckee River from the Numana Hatchery to the Nixon Gym.
The Eagle Staff walk/run is an annual 8-mile fun race to commemorate the anniversary of the Pyramid Lake Wars of 1860 and to symbolize the fight against illegal drugs, alcohol, & violence within the community. The third Friday of May was declared a Tribal holiday by resolution of the Tribal Council to recognize the Pyramid Lake Wars. All Tribal Offices will be closed in observance of this Tribal holiday on Friday May 20th.
The Sunrise Ceremony starts at 6:30 am and the Eagle Staff walk/run race starts at 7:00 am from the Numana Hatchery south of Nixon. Parking at the Numana Hatchery is very limited and participants are asked to park at the Nixon Gym in Nixon. Transportation to the Numana Hatchery will be provided with transit services starting at 5:30 am at the Nixon Gym. Following the Eagle Staff run/walk there will be a potluck luncheon and cultural activities throughout the afternoon at the Nixon Gym.
