Five people were arrested Saturday, July 4 at a sobriety check point on Highway 50 in Douglas County at Spooner Summit, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The event, an effort of multiple law agencies known as Joining Forces, had 2,021 vehicles that passed through its check point that went from around 2:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. There were 22 drivers that went to a secondary screening which found four people under the influence of a controlled substance and or alcohol.
Three were arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and one for alcohol and one person was arrested on an outstanding warrant.
During the entire month of July law enforcement agencies all across the State Of Nevada will be increasing their numbers of officer and troopers on the roadways in a continued effort to curb driving under the influences of alcohol and or drugs.
As a reminder motorists can be stopped and arrest for driving under the influence of prescribed medication if they advised to not operated heavy machinery or operate a vehicle. Certain prescribed medications have the same or similar effects on motorists as do illegal substances.
The NHP would like to remind the motoring public to please buckle up and remember not to use cellular devices while operating a motor vehicle.
