Carson City sheriff’s log: Man jailed on felony child abuse charge

A 37-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday on a felony child abuse charge after he allegedly shoved a 12-year-old to the ground when the boy attempt to stop the man from hitting his mother, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Micah Daniel Smith was taken into custody at 10 p.m. in the 200 block of Carson Meadow Drive. He was also charged with misdemeanor domestic battery and violating terms of probation for having consumed alcohol. His bail was set at $43,000.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the home for a domestic dispute in progress. The victim advised Smith was yelling at her and she would be in trouble if she was caught on the phone.

Officers arrived and met with the victim who told officers the two were in a heated argument over money and that he slapped her with an open hand on both sides of her face. She had red marks on her right and left cheek, the arrest report states.

During the argument the 12-year-old entered the room after he heard his mother crying. He yelled at the man to stop hitting his mother and that is when the suspect allegedly shoved the child to the ground, according to the arrest report.

Smith is under alternative sentencing probation through April 13, 2016 with several conditions, among them not to drink alcohol. He submitted to a preliminary breath test with a .084 BAC. He was taken into custody and booked without incident.

In other arrests: A 28-year-old Carson City man, James Dale Harrington, was booked into jail Thursday, 2:29 p.m. on a felony failure to appear bench warrant on a drug charge issued Nov. 30, 2015 in Carson City District Court. He is being held without bail in lieu of a hearing.

— A 46-year-old Carson City woman, Regina Blades, was arrested Tuesday, 4:14 p.m. in the 2300 block of Columbia Way on a Carson City Justice Court felony warrant for burglary. Bail: $30,000.

— A 38-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Thursday, 8:23 p.m. in the 1400 block of Rand Avenue on a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant out of Virginia City. Bail: $1,000.

— A 47-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Thursday, 7:36 p.m. in the 2800 block of Lovelace Way on a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant issued Nov. 23, 2015. Bail: $500.

A 71-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 8:40 a.m. in the area I-580 and College Parkway on a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant and driving on an expired driver’s license. A check of the vehicle’s license plates returned with an arrest warrant leading to a patrol officer to make a traffic stop. Bail: $1,135.

— A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday, 4:05 p.m. in the 1500 block of Humboldt Lane on a misdemeanor warrant for DUI issued Oct. 7, 2015 out of Reno Township Justice Court. Bail: $1,000.

— A 70-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday, 10:57 p.m. in the 1600 block of Medical Parkway on a misdemeanor warrant, failure to appear, issued May 28, 2014 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $855.

— A 49-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday, 9:45 p.m. in the 1600 block of Airport Road on a misdemeanor warrant, hit and run of an unoccupied vehicle, issued Nov. 17, 2015 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $1,000.

— A 32-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday, 3:50 p.m. in the area of North Carson and East Park streets on misdemeanor suspicion of DUI, driving without a valid license, suspended registration and having no proof of insurance.

According to the arrest report, a deputy made a traffic stop after a license plate came back as suspended. The driver opened the door and told the officer “I don’t want to waste your time, I’m drunk.” The officer could smell an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the car. The man identified himself and said he didn’t have a driver’s license with him. The man also handed the officer keys to his car. Dispatch confirmed his license was expired and the man was unable to provide a current proof of insurance and said he knew his registration was not valid.

The man was asked if he would do a series of field sobriety tests. The man told the officer, again, “I don’t want to waste any more of your time” and agreed to go to jail. He provided a preliminary breath test of .234. At jail he provided evidentiary tests of .194 and .206. Bail: $2,178.

— A 63-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday, 12:59 p.m. in the area of State Street and Highway 50 East for misdemeanor DUI. According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to a grocery store in the 500 block of East William Street regarding a man who appeared intoxicated, entered the store and had trouble standing.

A deputy arrived and observed the suspect’s vehicle leave the parking lot. The officer made a traffic stop. The man identified himself and stated he had a “few” beers, the arrest report states. He agreed to field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment on all the tests. Bail: $1,137.
