Carson City sheriff’s arrest log: Man jailed after meth and cash recovered

A 31-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of drug possession and sales after officers recovered methamphetamine and cash, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Joey Garcia was taken into custody in the 1400 block of South Carson Street at around 5 p.m. He faces charges of sales and possession of a controlled substance.

According to the arrest report, Garcia attempted to walk away from Carson City Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement team deputies who were preparing to check his status as a sex offender. As he walked away he allegedly dropped a metal container that contained six small baggies that had “stay high” printed on them, each containing equal amounts of methamphetamine, a total of around 2 grams.

Garcia claimed the drugs weren’t his and that he was being set up, according to the arrest report. In his right hand pocket deputies found $615 in various denominations. SET members were to review video of the incident provided by the gas station where the incident took place. Bail: $10,000.

In other arrests:
— A transient preparing to be released from Carson City Jail was held after it was learned there was a felony warrant for his arrest out of South Lake Tahoe, Calif. Ray Brashears will be extradited after a felony fugitive from justice warrant was discovered. Bail: $5,000.

— A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday, 5:14 p.m. in the 2800 block of Pinebrook Drive on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and drug paraphernalia. According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to a residence that involved in reckless driver and a domestic dispute.

As officers arrived the suspect was backing out of the driveway and began to leave. The officer ordered the man to stop and get out of the vehicle. Deputies observed the man to have slurred speech and a strong smell of alcohol.
Deputies spoke with the man’s stepfather who advised he asked the suspect to move out because he was using drugs. He said his stepson then threatened to slit his throat, the arrest report states.

A deputy with a K9 assisted and conducted an external sniff of the vehicle. The dog gave a positive alert. The vehicle was searched and officers found two glass pipes with marijuana reside and a grinder.

At jail the suspect refused to take field sobriety tests. He blew a .22 on a preliminary breath test and took evidentiary breath tests with samples of .206 and .211. Bail: $2,274.

— A 19-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday, 11:23 p.m. in the 400 block of Fairview Drive on misdemeanor suspicion of DUI drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and speeding.

According to the arrest report, a deputy patrolling the area of Roop Street observed a vehicle speeding, with radar confirming 43 mph in a posted 25 mph zone. The officer initiated a traffic stop and informed the reason for the traffic stop.

The officer observed the driver to have red watery eyes and an odor of marijuana was coming from the vehicle. The officer asked for the marijuana. The man handed him a container with pot inside, a glass pipe with residue and a marijuana grinder. He told the officer he smoked marijuana within the past two hours, the arrest report states.

He submitted to four field sobriety tests and showed impairment on two of the tests. He was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI drugs. He provided two blood samples for evidence. Bail: $3,183.

— Two men, ages 50 and 19 were arrested Tuesday, 9:15 p.m. in the 1300 block of East Fifth Street on misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said. According to the arrest report the victim told officers there was a dispute over his dog that had either been hit or kicked by the 19-year-old suspect. He said the men pushed him to the floor, with the 50-year-old punching him at least twice in the back. The victim had marks on his back consistent with his story. Bail: $3,137 each.

— A 37-year-old transient was arrested Tuesday, 8:30 p.m. in the area of Plaza and Ann streets on a misdemeanor warrant for graffiti, issued April 1, 2016 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $250.

— A 24-year-old Carson City man was booked into jail Tuesday, 4:29 p.m. on a misdemeanor warrant alleging petit larceny issued in February. Bail: $1,000.
