Man jailed on suspicion of driving under the influence of marijuana

An 18-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 9:55 a.m. in the 1600 block of East Fifth Street on five misdemeanor charges, including driving under the influence of marijuana, following a traffic stop, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, an officer stopped the man for failing to maintain a lane of travel westbound on Fifth Street from the roundabout. During the traffic stop the officer detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The man was confrontational with the arresting deputy and was placed in handcuffs and patted down. During the pat down the officer found a marijuana pipe in the man’s front pocket. Officers learned the man was on Alternative Sentencing, which asked that he be held because of the paraphernalia, the arrest report states.

The man had red eyes and slurred speech, leading the officer to believe he might be under the influence of marijuana. The man advised he did not want to take any field sobriety tests. He was arrested and taken to jail. During booking he was asked if he had any drugs in his possession prior to entering the facility. Without saying anything the man slipped off his right shoe and revealed a ziplock baggy containing a small amount of marijuana, the arrest report states.

He faces the following misdemeanor charges: Criminal contempt with Alternative Sentencing, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, DUI drugs and failure to maintain a traffic lane. Bail: $3,598.

In other arrests:
— A 21-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 10:27 a.m. in the area of Northridge and Roop Street on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal contempt and a tail lamp violation, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, the driver was stopped for not having a functioning brake light. During the stop, the officer could observe a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car. The man voluntarily told the offer he was in possession of two glass marijuana pipes in the center console of the vehicle.

The man is on Alternative Sentencing with a clause to obey all laws. Alternative Sentencing was contacted and asked to have the man placed on a criminal contempt violation hold. Bail: $1,637.

— A 24-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 11:55 a.m. in the 100 block of East Long Street on three traffic warrants. One warrant was issued Jan. 10, 2014 and two other issued Jan. 24, 2014. Bail: $2,205.

— A 54-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Thursday, 9:20 a.m. in the 3200 block of Airport Road on a failure to appear traffic warrant issued out of Carson City Justice Court on August 25, 2014. Bail: $227.

— A 49-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 12:55 p.m. in the 1200 block of Rolling Hills Drive on misdemeanor charges of driving on a revoked license for DUI and violation of bail conditions.

According to the report, a witness observed the man drinking a bottle of liquor from a gas station, throwing the bottle out the window and leaving at a rapid speed. The reporting witness said she would sign a criminal complaint. Officers caught up with the man who admitted he had a shot of Fire Eater, an alcoholic beverage, in the parking lot and denied throwing the bottle out the window.

He submitted to a field sobriety test in which he passed but he did blow a .65 on a preliminary breath test. Dispatch advised he was on Alternative Sentencing with a no alcohol clause. Dispatch also advised the man’s license was revoked for DUI. He was arrested for violation of bail conditions. Bail: $4,137.

Those arrested and facing criminal charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
