A 49-year-old Stateline man died in a motorcycle accident on Sunday south of Gardnerville, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

The accident, reported at 7:16 p.m., involved the collision of a pickup with the motorcycle, authorities said.

Preliminary crash investigation details indicate that a silver 2002 GMC Sonoma pickup driven by a 59-year-old Gardnerville man was traveling south in the left turn lane and was attempting to turn left, or east, onto Palomino Lane.

Traveling northbound on Highway 395 approaching the same intersection was a black 2008 Simms Custom motorcycle driven by the Stateline resident.

The driver of the pickup failed to yield to the right of way of the motorcycle and proceeded to make the left turn toward Palomino Lane, authorities said. The front of the pickup struck the left side of the motorcycle in the northbound travel lane causing the motorcyclist to be thrown from his bike.

The Stateline man was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno via Care Flight helicopter and died a few hours later at approximately 9:18 p.m. The driver of the pickup wasn't hurt in the collision and alcohol isn't suspected to be a contributing factor.

The motorcyclist's identity hasn't been released pending a notification of family.

Because of the accident, northbound traffic was detoured around the scene for about 90 minutes.

Witnesses to the event or anyone with additional information are encouraged to call the Department of Public Safety-Communications Center at (775) 687-0400 or Trooper Mike Stapledon of the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) at (775) 689-4623 regarding case # NHP-1010100982.
