A 39-year-old Gardnerville man was arrested Friday on suspicion of felony grand larceny in the 1800 block of Winnie Lane, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Michael Shane Prouty was taken into custody at 10 a.m. after a bag of gold was stolen from a local businessman’s private residence, according to the arrest report. The gold, weighing between 3,500 and 4,000 grams, was valued at more than $60,000.
According to the arrest report, Prouty did odd jobs for the businessman and took the bag of gold while doing chores. After the gold was discovered missing, video surveillance showed evidence of the alleged offense and a complaint was made to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office. When deputies arrived, Prouty was on the scene attempting to ‘make right’ of the situation by offering the victim $32,000 cash and several firearms as restitution. Upon questioning, Prouty admitted to the crime and was taken to jail without incident. Bail: $25,000.

— A 31-year-old transient from San Francisco was arrested Friday for a felony warrant, failure to appear, in the 1200 block of Woodside Drive after a traffic stop.
Shannon Larea Castor was taken into custody after the car she was riding in was stopped because deputies received a tip that the driver was a person of interest. Her name was ran through dispatch and the warrant for assault with a deadly weapon was discovered at 12:52 p.m. Castor is being held without bail in lieu of a hearing.
— A 24-year-old Carson City man was arrested for misdemeanor violation of his suspended sentence Saturday and transported to Carson City jail from Washoe County detention at 7:30 a.m. Bail: $3,000.
A 41-year-old Sun Valley man was arrested for misdemeanor violation of his suspended sentence Saturday and transported to Carson City jail from Washoe County detention at 7:30 a.m. Bail: $3,000.
— A 56-year-old transient from San Francisco was arrested for two misdemeanor traffic warrants Friday near Tonka and Ginger lanes. Deputies were called about a suspicious person walking through a neighborhood and leaving notes on residence doors at 5:15 p.m. Bail: $1,360.
— A 45-year-old transient was arrested for a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant Friday in the 1200 block of Woodside Drive after a car he was riding in was stopped in a parking lot by deputies. The vehicle was stopped at 12:52 p.m. because a tip was received that the driver was a person of interest. Bail: $1,000.
— A 32-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday for misdemeanor DUI near Woodside and Desatoya drives after the suspected driver lost control of his truck and high-centered the vehicle on a large rock around 2:30 a.m. Responding deputies could smell alcohol and the man submitted to a standardized field sobriety test which he subsequently failed and blew a .211 on a breathalyzer. Bail: $1,000.
— A 35-year-old Carson City woman was arrested for a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant Friday after sheriff’s deputies responded to a vehicle injury report on College Parkway at 2:44 p.m. Bail: $526.
— A 23-year-old Carson City woman was arrested for misdemeanor contempt of court Friday in the 1200 block of Woodside Drive. According to the arrest report a tip was received regarding the woman and her outstanding warrant. Sheriff’s deputies located the woman’s car as described and took her into custody at 12:52 p.m. Bail: $500.
— A 32-year-old Carson City woman was arrested for misdemeanor hit and run of an unoccupied vehicle Friday near Mountain and Bath streets. The suspect's vehicle was located by deputies after multiple witnesses described the car and the direction it was traveling after it left the scene. The suspected driver left her damaged vehicle on the side of the road and deputies monitored the area until she returned about 30 minutes later and was taken into custody. Both vehicles received moderate damage and no one was injured. Bail: $500.
