A Carson City couple face felony drug and gross misdemeanor child neglect charges after authorities were led to methamphetamine and marijuana inside the home, described as "filthy" by arresting officers.
Cory Lyons, 27, and Shannon Fox, 24, were arrested Oct. 16. both face felony charges of possessing methamphetamine, gross misdemeanor charges of child neglect, and misdemeanor charges of possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Officers responded to the 200 block of David Street at 12:40 a.m. after receiving a call about a screaming child. Officers arrived and smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the apartment, according to the arrest report.
The couple admitted they had been smoking pot in the apartment with their three-year-old daughter present. Lyons showed the officer a small amount of marijuana in a tin box, located in a drawer in the living room. Also in the drawer were two pipes for smoking marijuana and a marijuana grinder, the report stated.
Officers observed the apartment as being "filthy" with weeks of dirty dishes in the kitchen and old food on the floor and furniture. Along with cat feces found on the kitchen floor there was also a streak smear of dried mustard. Also observed was piles of dirty clothes in the bedroom that were "as high as the dressers" and feces in and around the bathroom toilet, the arrest report states.
When officers asked if there were any other drugs in the apartment, Lyons took the officers into the master bathroom and showed them a drawer that contained methamphetamine baggies, pipes and other paraphernalia. In the drawer were two glass pipes for smoking meth, which contained small amounts of the drug inside. An officer tested a small amount of the substance in the pipes with a NIK test which came back positive for methamphetamine. The couple were arrested and taken to jail.
Child Protective Services responded to the apartment and Lyons parents arrived at the home to take custody of the three-year-old. Both are being held on $5,000 bail.

A 42-year-old Carson City man faces felony drug charge and misdemeanor battery charges after allegedly entering a home and slapping two females.
Rueben Scott, 42, was arrested on Oct. 17 in the 3000 block of Dilday. Officers responded to the residence at 6:11 p.m. on a report of battery at the residence. Officers met with a woman outside the home. She told authorities that she, her mother and 17-year-old sister live in the home and that the mother was not home at the time of the incident.
The woman told authorities that Scott, who was known to them, walked into their home and began to talk to them while they were sitting on the couch, the arrest report stated. The woman said she then went to her mother's bedroom to work on the computer and Scott followed her to the bedroom and grabbed her by the hand, pulled her off the bed and slapped her in the face, according to the arrest report.
The woman told authorities that she ran out of the bedroom with Scott chasing her. In the kitchen of the home she said he grabbed her by the front of her shirt and necklace, pulling her to him and then slapped her two more times on the side of the face. The woman said she was able to break free and took her sister and went outside, the arrest report stated.
The arresting officer stated that as he spoke with the woman, who said her face was red but not anymore from being slapped, said he could not see evidence of the battery to the woman's face, the report states.
Officers then spoke with the 17-year-old girl outside the home. She said she witnessed Scott grab her sister by the shirt and slap her in the face twice while they were in the kitchen. The 17-year-old also said that she was slapped in her own face while her sister was in the bedroom. The arresting officer said he could not see evidence of injury, according to the report.
In a third interview, officers spoke with the mother of the woman and 17-year-old outside the home. She told authorities that she did not want to press charges against Scott for trespassing and entering the home but she did make a citizen's arrest of the man for allegedly striking her 17-year-old daughter. The woman who was also hit said she too wanted to make a citizen's against Scott for allegedly striking her.
The two sisters told authorities that the man is on probation, that he had been drinking alcohol and that he had a black canister of methamphetamine with him that he scored as a payment for a tattoo he did. The sisters told authorities that the man asked them if they wanted to smoke the meth and that they refused, according to the arrest report.
The mother gave officers permission to enter the home and authorities found Scott sleeping on the couch in the living room. The man was placed into handcuffs and detained. Officers smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and the man became uncooperative, screaming at the arresting officer.
He was searched and inside the front right pocket of his pants officers found a small black plastic canister with suspected methamphetamine inside. He was taken to jail and inside he refused to take a PBT test. He told authorities: "I am already in jail, I don't need to do that." The department of Alternative Sentencing placed Scott on hold for probation violation. He is being held on $5,500 bail.
