An Incline Village man was arrested Sunday on felony suspicion of hit and run causing injury after allegedly driving drunk, crashing into a vehicle and then driving to the parking lot of Walmart, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Jeffrey Wendell McCunn, 47, was taken into custody at 7:06 p.m. He was also charged with suspicion of DUI. According to the arrest report, deputies were called to a vehicle crash in the area of College Parkway and Carson Street. Witnesses followed the suspect vehicle, a blue Cadillac Escalade, to Walmart. The victim in the crash was taken to the hospital for a neck injury.
A deputy located the suspect’s vehicle in the first row of the Walmart parking lot and observed a moderate amount of damage to the front end consistent with being involved in a crash. The officer made contact with McCunn, the sole occupant of the vehicle who was sitting in the backseat, the arrest report states.
The officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle. The officer asked the man how much he had to drink. McCunn replied “a few.” The officer asked if he would step outside the car, which he complied.
While speaking with the man, the officer observed signs of intoxication. The officer asked why he did not stop at the accident. The man stated he wasn’t driving. The officer asked the man who was driving his vehicle. The man said it was one of his friends. The officer asked the man what his friend’s name was and McCunn stated he did not know and that it was a driver he had hired, the arrest report states.
The officer advised McCunn that he suspected him of being under the influence and asked if he would be willing to submit to field sobriety tests. He originally agreed. Prior to beginning the tests, McCunn said to the deputy: “what if I say no,” the arrest report states. The officer advised the tests were voluntary. The officer asked again if he would be willing to participate in the sobriety tests. The man again stated “what if I say no,” the arrest report states. The officer advised that he suspected him of leaving the scene of an accident, driving under the influence and that he would be placed under arrest. The man continued to ask what the “no factor” was with the test. He was then taken into custody.
After speaking with witnesses who followed the vehicle to Walmart, all stated they observed the Cadillac leave the scene of the crash and they saw only one occupant inside. A search warrant was applied for and granted by a Carson City judge to obtain blood evidence from the man. Bail: $41,000.

As the suspect left the restaurant, he then hit a glass door causing it to shatter. The restaurant manager advised the damages would be approximately $800 to fix, the arrest report states.
