A 19-year-old Carson City woman was booked into jail early Thursday on suspicion of felony drug possession and five lesser charges after she allegedly wrecked her SUV and refused to get out, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Kyra Jean Mammen was taken into custody at 4:48 a.m. in the 2600 block of South Edmonds Drive. She was also charged with DUI drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, obstructing an officer and being a minor in possession of alcohol.
According to the arrest report, deputies were advised of a non-injury accident in the area of Damon and South Edmonds. The reporting witness advised he noticed a vehicle that had gone off the road into a ditch.
Deputies arrived and made contact with Mammen, who was seated inside the Ford Explorer. She advised she was distracted while adjusting the radio and ran off the road. A deputy noticed the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and asked about it. The suspect advised she had not smoked marijuana for two days. The officer asked the woman to step out of the vehicle. The woman had to go through a window because the doors were jammed. She was unsteady on her feet, spoke with slurred speech and had red, watery eyes, according to the arrest report.
The deputy asked the woman if she had any belongings she wanted from the vehicle. The woman turned and jumped into the vehicle and sat down. The officer told the woman she was under arrest and repeatedly asked her, no less than 10 times, to step out of the vehicle, according to the report.
She began to turn the key to the ignition on, attempting to start the vehicle. The woman was told that if she did not exit the vehicle, she would be pulled from it. She didn’t exit and deputies pulled her through the window, according to the arrest report.
During an inventory search of the vehicle deputies recovered her purse that contained a jar of marijuana, a heroin wrapper with heroin residue, a jar of suspected cocaine, a glass pipe with marijuana residue and an open bottle of white wine. She was taken to jail where she submitted to an evidentiary blood draw without incident. Bail: $6,295.
