A 52-year-old Sun Valley man was arrested early Sunday on felony drug charges following a traffic stop in which the suspect was driving the wrong way on I-580, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.
Thomas Higgins was arrested at 4:12 a.m. He faces felony charges of possession of dangerous drugs without a prescription and two charges of possession with intent to sell. He also faces misdemeanor charges of DUI and reckless driving.
According to the arrest report, a deputy was dispatched to the Carson City freeway for a wrong way driver going southbound in the northbound lanes. The driver identified himself as Higgins. Officers observed Higgin’s slurred speech, droopy eyelids and dry mouth. He admitted he took Hydrocodone for hip surgery. Higgins agreed to submit to field sobriety tests and performed unsatisfactory on the tests. He was placed into custody.
While conducting a vehicle inventory of Higgin’s truck, officers found a blue tin with white pills, identified as Hydrocodone, a plastic bottle with blue pills in it that were prepared for sales. The pills were identified as Alprazolam. Higgins allowed officers to go through his phone where they found conversations with someone regarding a planned sale of 30 Hydrocodone for $300. Bail: $14,274.
In other arrests: A 41-year-old man was arrested Saturday at 1:30 p.m. on misdemeanor charges of domestic battery, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of bail conditions. Officers responded to a report of a domestic battery. The victim met with the officers and told them she and her boyfriend were using methamphetamine after her boyfriend passed his drug test for alternative sentencing.
The victim said the couple began to argue and her boyfriend began throwing her belongings out of their RV. He struck the victim on the side of her face. According to the arrest report, there was a red mark on the side of the victim’s face consistent with being struck. The man was not in the area at the time the officers arrived.
Later Saturday evening, officers located the man at the intersection of Stewart and Fifth Street and conducted a traffic stop. Officers found a crack pipe in his front pants pocket with some burnt and unburnt residue in it. Bail: $6,137.
— A 27-year-old man was arrested Saturday at 3:26 a.m. in the 700 block of Silver Oak Drive on misdemeanor charges of domestic battery. Officers were dispatched to the area in reference to a domestic battery in progress. They met with the man in his home where they observed a table had been turned over and the man dripping with sweat. He also had a bite mark on his thumb and a torn shirt. He told the officers that he was in an argument with his girlfriend about their relationship and she began to hit him and pointed a knife at him.
Another officer found the woman and spoke to her away from her boyfriend. She had red marks on her neck and a torn shirt. She said during the argument with her boyfriend, he asked her to leave and while she was gathering her things, he began to push her. She said as she continued to pack her belongings, her boyfriend grabbed her shirt and punched her face causing her nose to bleed. While the woman was in the bathroom cleaning herself up, she said the man broke through the door and put his hands around her neck leaving scratches.
As the woman continued to gather her things, she was pushed into the bedroom where the man allegedly pushed her onto the bed and began to hit her in the face causing red bumps and her lip to bleed. The officer observed her injuries and determined that the man was the primary aggressor and arrested him. Bail: $3,137.
— A 32-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday at 11:02 p.m. at the corner of Seely Lane and Saliman Road on misdemeanor charges of DUI first offense, failure to maintain a single lane of traffic and basic speeding. According to the arrest report, officers observed a vehicle unable to maintain lanes and changing lanes quickly without signaling. After conducting a traffic stop, officers observed a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver. She admitted she had consumed alcohol earlier that evening. The driver submitted to four field sobriety tests and failed them. Bail: $1,316.
The passenger of the vehicle passenger admitted to consuming alcohol as well. The passenger is under supervision of alternative sentencing. Bail: $3,000.
— A 26-year-old man was arrested Saturday at 8:23 p.m. in the 3000 block of Highway 50 on a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery first offense. Officers responded to a call made by a mother who reported she was being battered by her son. She said he “head butted” her and punched her in the ear. At the scene officers heard a screaming voice asking them to enter the area and said her son was still on the property. Officers found the man, ordered him to the ground and detained him in handcuffs.
The woman spoke to an officer outside the residence. She said her son had become angry because she wouldn’t give him money and “head butted” her. She also said he punched her in the ear. The officer observed bruising and swelling on the woman’s head and saw redness on the side of her head by her ear.
The man told deputies that his mother had gotten into his face and they both “head butted” each other and then he punched her to get her out of his face, the arrest report states. Officers determined the man was the primary aggressor. Bail: $3,137.
— A 34-year-old man was arrested Saturday, 7 p.m. at Mills Park on a misdemeanor charge of contempt of court. Officers responded to the area in reference to a fight that was going on. One of the men met with the officers and said he and some friends were drinking and began to argue and then fight. Officers ran the man's name through dispatch and they confirmed a warrant out of the Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $500.
— A 35-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday at 9:45 a.m. in the 600 block of Hot Springs Road on two misdemeanor charges of violation of suspended sentence. Officers attempted a warrant service at the man’s residence. The man confirmed his identity and a records check showed a warrant out of the Carson City Justice and Municipal Court. Bail: $6,000.
— A 31-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday at 7:26 p.m. in the 400 block of East Park Street on a misdemeanor charge of violation of suspended sentence. Officers were dispatched to the residence for a warrant service. The woman was entering her apartment when officers stopped her and confirmed her warrant and took her into custody. Bail: $3,000.
