Carson City man dies in early Saturday crash on Carson Street

A Carson City man died early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle crash into a pole. Matthew Vanclieve Arnold, 40, died of injuries after being flown by Care Flight following the crash at the intersection of Carson Street and Koontz Lane, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The preliminary crash investigation details indicate a 2013 black Honda Accord driven by Arnold was traveling northbound on South Carson St. when for unknown reasons Mr. Arnold’s vehicle left the roadway at the northeast corner of S. Carson St and Koontz Ln and struck a signal light post head on, said NHP Trooper DavId Gibson. Mr. Arnold was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Mr. Arnold was flown to Renown Medical Center by Care Flight with serious life-threatening injuries. The helicopter was instructed to land near the accident scene. At 1:40 a.m. Mr. Arnold was pronounced deceased at Renown as a result of his injuries. Alcohol and or drugs are being investigated as a possible factor in the cause of this accident, said Gibson.

This area of South Carson Street is three lanes in each direction and the speed limit is 45 mph with spot roadway lighting.

Trooper Albert Sevier of the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Carson City District is investigating this incident.
