— A 46-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 6 p.m. in the 3300 block of South Carson Street on a gross misdemeanor charge of threatening a peace officer and misdemeanor charges of obstructing and being an intoxicated pedestrian.
According to the arrest report, two deputies were with a reporting witness of a reckless driver incident in the parking lot of 3300 South Carson Street.
As one of the deputies returned to his vehicle the 46-year-old suspect crossed Curry Street and approached the officer, holding a cell phone in his hand. The officer began to walk passed the man to the reporting witness and did not realize he was being recorded, the arrest report states.
The man said in an accusatory tone: “Excuse me” and “What’s going on here?” The deputy turned to face the man and observed he was pointing the cell phone at him.
The officer told the suspect that he and the other officer were dealing with another call and he needed to keep his distance so as to not interfere, the arrest report states.
The man demanded the officer’s name and his badge number and came within inches of the deputy’s personal space. As the demands continued, the deputy was taken away from the investigation. He handcuffed the man and removed a knife from his right pants pocket and put him in the back seat of the patrol vehicle, the arrest report states.
The man smelled strongly of an alcoholic beverage. As he was being taken to jail the man asked the deputy what he was being charged with. The officer replied he was being charged with obstructing and being a drunken pedestrian. The man told the officer to remember he had two pictures of him. The officer asked the man to elaborate on where he was going with that.
The man replied: “You know what it means.” At that point it seemed to the officer that the man was attempting to sway his decision on what to charge him with so the officer informed him he would be additionally charged with intimidating a police officer.
At jail the man submitted to a preliminary breath test of .26. While in pre-booking he made mention that he recorded the officers, saying they were harassing the reporting witness. The suspect then looked confused when the arresting deputy told him the reporting witness had called officers for help which was why the deputies were speaking with her in the first place.
