A Carson City man was arrested and faces charges including domestic battery and gross misdemeanor child abuse after using a pillow to repeatedly beat on his girlfriend in which their baby also sustained a bruise to the face, authorities said.
Miguel Angel Paredes, 23, was arrested at 4:08 a.m. Saturday in the 2000 block of Lone Mountain Drive. He faces a gross misdemeanor charge of abuse or neglect of a child, two misdemeanor charges of domestic battery and a misdemeanor charge of obstructing an officer.
According to the Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest report, deputies were dispatched to the Lone Mountain Drive residence in reference to a domestic battery. The victim advised the father of her baby had hit her repeatedly.
The victim told officers the man came home intoxicated, and told her he had spent all of their money, the arrest report states. The couple began to argue, when the man grabbed the victim by the arm, twisting it, the arrest report states. The woman broke free by elbowing him. She then went to cradle her baby and the man charged her again.
The victim told officers the man then began to hit her with a pillow, approximately 20 times, telling her that he used the pillow instead of his fists so that it wouldn't leave marks, the arrest report states.
As he was striking her, he also struck the baby in the face, presumably with the same pillow, which caused a bruise to the baby's face, the arrest report states.
The woman ran out of the home with the baby. Paredes then began to punch the ground and his face, the arrest report states. Officers observed bruising on the woman's right arm, wrist and her face was swollen, as if she had been hit repeatedly with a firm pillow. Carson City Fire Department responded to evaluate the baby for injuries. Photos were taken of the victims.
Officers found Paredes sitting on a curb, with blood coming from both hands after punching the ground, and blood from his face where he had punched himself in the face, the arrest report states.
He refused to listen to instructions and began flinging blood from his head at the officers, the arrest report states. He was told several times to stop and had to be placed in restraints. He was taken to the hospital for his injuries and then booked into jail. Bail: $9,081.
The woman told officers she feared for her safety and said she would get a restraining order.

A Carson City woman faces a felony and several misdemeanor drug charges after she was arrested Friday night in the 1200 block of South Curry Street.
Kimberly Ellen Sanchez, 48, was jailed after authorities were called to a residence after a report that a strong odor of marijuana was coming from the home. Upon contact with the woman, she was uncooperative with officers and refused to answer questions including her name and personal information, the arrest report states.
Officers explained to her that they could apply for a search warrant. After about 15 minutes of Sanchez being uncooperative, the officer made a call to dispatch to get the DA involved in a search process. The woman recanted, and stated officers could retrieve the marijuana and paraphernalia from the home. She stated she had contraband in her kitchen drawer and bedroom drawer.
In plain view officers observed several pieces of drug paraphernalia, a glass bong, glass pipes, roaches and ashtrays. In the bedroom that she shares with her 9-year-old son, officers found a drawer full of drugs, drug paraphernalia and other items of contraband.
Officers also found a marijuana grow room in the spare bedroom with one dead plant and illegal psychedelic mushrooms. All items were collected, photographed and placed into evidence.
Sanchez remained uncooperative, and claimed that officers came to the residence to take her money and planted the mushrooms on her just so they could take her to jail. Bail: $7,347.
— A 27-year-old Carson City woman was arrested July 12, 9:40 p.m. at the intersection of Nevada and Second streets. She faces a felony charge of using false identification to avoid prosecution and three misdemeanor failure to appear charges.
Kelly Rose Scanlon gave officers the name, age and date of birth of someone else when they arrived at the scene of a domestic dispute. The intoxicated woman became verbally non-compliant with officers, screaming profanities at them. A warrants check of the woman resulted in the three failure to appear warrants. She was taken to jail and blew a .262, the arrest report states. Bail: $13,500.
— A 21-year-old man was arrested Sunday, July 14, 1:33 a.m. and faces a misdemeanor charge of indecent conduct after he was seen urinating on the west side of the sidewalk area on a wooden pole off of Plaza Street north of Proctor Street. The intoxicated man was on Alternative Sentencing with conditions to obey all laws and not to consume alcohol. $1,137.
— A 55-year-old Carson City man faces a misdemeanor DUI charge and speeding. he was arrested Saturday, July 13, in the 1800 block of North Carson Street. He was stopped for traveling at a high rate of speed, doing 45 mph in a 25 mph zone.
— An 18-year-old Carson City man faces several charges including DUI and taking a car without permission, crashing it into a field. Officers responded at 5:43 a.m. Saturday morning to an area near Nye Lane and Otha Street.
A witness reported to authorities that a sedan had driven off the roadway into a field and that there were two females and one male at the scene. Upon arrival officers found the vehicle in brush and began interviewing the three, each declining they were the driver. When asked to be honest and noting that the witness had identified a male driver of the vehicle, the 18-year-old man confessed he had been the driver and had consumed several beers and shots of vodka prior to the crash.
The owner of the car was contacted and stated she did not give the 18-year-old man permission to use her vehicle. Once at jail, the man was read his Miranda rights in which he confirmed he did not have permission to take the vehicle, adding that he was planning to bring the car back before he was involved in the accident.
The man also faces charges of driving without valid driver's license and minor consuming alcohol. Bail: $4,071.
— A 29-year-old Wellington man was arrested in the 4900 block of South Carson Street on Friday, 1:38 p.m., for allegedly becoming angry at someone in the gas station line, telling them to move and then taking out a knife, telling the person to move or else he was going to stab them in the eye socket, the arrest report states. Bail: $637.
— A 43-year-old transient was arrested on Friday, July 12, 6:58 a.m., and faces a misdemeanor charge of unlawful use of inhalant. Officers were called to the parking lot after a report was made of a man huffing paint inside a vehicle.
Officers arrived and looked inside the vehicle where the found the man who told them "I'm not going to lie. I was huffing Dust Off."
He handed the officers a can of Dust Off, which is compressed air commonly used to clean computers and televisions. Fire department personnel arrived at the scene but the man declined medical treatment. He was arrested and taken to jail. Bail: $1,132.
—A 26-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday, July 12, on a Carson City Justice Court warrant, violation of a suspended sentence. Bail: $1,000.
— A 47-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, July 13, 2:29 a.m. in the 100 block of East Telegraph Street and faces a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct. According to the arrest report, officers arrived on the scene of a bar fight that ended with none of those fighting wanting to complete statements.
A cab was called for the 47-year-old man who admitted to drinking alcohol and didn't have a ride home.
The man was told the cab was on its way and to wait. When the man became agitated at the officer, the officer again informed him a cab was on its way and to "call it a night." The man then reportedly charged the officer, saying among other things "I will beat your ass."
He was arrested and taken to jail and blew a preliminary breath test of .142. Bail: $242.
— A 46-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday, 12:12 a.m. in the 500 block of South Roop Street and faces a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence, first offense.
The woman was stopped because officers observed the vehicle she was driving failed to maintain its lane and stopped past a red light and into the intersection. The woman provided preliminary breath tests of .153 at the scene of the traffic stop, took and failed the field sobriety tests, and took breath tests at the jail that registered .132 and .131. Bail: $1,132.
— A 23-year-old Reno woman was booked into Carson City Jail Saturday, July 13 and faces a misdemeanor charge of contempt of court, in which a warrant for her arrest was issued March 27, 2013 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail $1,000.
— A 32-year-old Carson City man was booked into jail on Saturday, July 13, 12:12 p.m. on a failure to appear contempt of court warrant issued May 22, 2013 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $1,000.
— A 47-year-old Carson City woman was arrested in the 1800 block of North Edmonds on Saturday, July 13, 2:45 p.m. She faces a misdemeanor charge of contempt of court from East Fork Justice Court. Bail: $500.
— A 21-year-old Reno woman was booked into jail on July 12, 12 p.m. on a contempt of court warrant issued out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $10,000.
— A 42-year-old Carson City woman was booked into jail on July 12, 12 p.m. on a contempt of court warrant issued out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $3,000.
Those arrested and facing charges are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
