Dayton man tasered, jailed for punching Carson City deputy in the face

A 26-year-old Dayton man was arrested and faces felony charges of battery on a police officer and probation violation after he allegedly punched a Carson City deputy twice in the face with a closed fist.

Christopher Scholl was arrested at 2 a.m., Thursday in the 1700 block of Fair Way after a foot chase with officers. According to the arrest report, officers were patrolling the area of Empire Ranch Road and Morgan Mill Road. A vehicle entered the Empire Ranch neighborhood and began driving around and came to stop in front of a home on Fair Way.

Officers approached the vehicle and found a woman hiding in the passenger seat. The woman said she was with her friend "John" and they were picking someone up. A few minutes later Scholl emerged from the front gate of the home and told officers he was visiting a friend "Steve" at the house, the arrest report states.

The officer told Scholl that Steve doesn't live there and that the officer spoke with the owner. Scholl admitted to lying. The arresting officer attempted to detain the man but he was pushed away. A struggle ensued and that is when Scholl punched the officer in the face with a closed fist, twice, knocking the officer's glasses to the ground, bending them, the report states.

Scholl began running and hopping over fences of nearby back yards. He was found in the back yard in the 1700 block of Empire Ranch Road. He was ordered to comply but began resisting and continued fighting. He was tasered, placed in restraints and taken to jail.

Records show that Scholl was under the supervision of Parole and Probation with an Arrest on Sight clause. He shows a no-bail Parole and Probation warrant. Bail for the felony battery on a police officer charge is set at $30,000.

The woman in the car waiting for Scholl was arrested and faces misdemeanor charges of obstructing a police officer and having an open container.

In other felony-related arrests:

— A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 4900 block of Carson Street on Jan. 15 at 1:32 p.m. and faces a felony charge of embezzlement.
Anthony Ordaz, a clerk at the store for three and a half years, was detained by the store's loss and prevention for embezzlement, according to the arrest report.

Store security stated that they had a transaction that took place on Dec. 23 where Ordaz gave merchandise that was on lay-a-way to the customer who paid the full price, $125.27, took the money and placed the money under the drawer.

Security said Ordaz was seen on surveillance video taking money from the drawer and placing it in his pocket. Security interviewed the man who admitted to taking the money, merchandise and giving discounts to friends above and beyond regular discounts. Security estimates $613.46, at a minimum was taken by Ordaz, and actually could be much more, the report states. Bail: $5,000

— A 21-year-old Carson City man was arrested at the intersection of Russell and Northridge for a felony parole and probation violation.

Robert William Brunson, was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation. Officers observed the occupants of the vehicle coming out of a casino. A wants and warrants check on Brunson found that he was on supervision with the Nevada Department of Parole and Probation with conditions to not consume alcohol or to be in a gaming establishment, according to the arrest report.

Brunson was asked he had been drinking and he said he had and submitted to a preliminary breath test which resulted in a .051 breath alcohol rate, below legal intoxication. Parole and Probation requested the man be arrest for violation of probation. No bail.

In misdemeanor arrests:

— A 28-year-old man faces a misdemeanor charge of obstructing after a prowler report was taken Jan. 16, 9:21 p.m.

The man arrested was wearing a black hoodie, dark colored pants and carrying a flashlight. A deputy stopped the man who fit the description in the 3900 block of Northgate near a residence and a storage shed.

The officer asked the man to show him his hands. The man let out a string of F-bombs, told the officer he hated cops and to get off the property because the officer was trespassing.

The father of the 28-year-old man then arrived and provided officers with information about his son. He said his son doesn't like law enforcement, has been arrested numerous times and that getting into trouble has been an ongoing problem.

The man was taken to jail and later apologized to the arresting officers for the thrown F-bombs and giving them a hard time, saying he was "working hard to stay out of trouble," according to the arrest report.

— A 19-year-old Carson City man faces several misdemeanor charges, including driver under the influence of drugs, after he was arrested at 10:32 p.m. Jan. 16 at the intersection of 7th and Curry streets.

According to the arrest report officer were patrolling and observed a 2000 Cadillac 4-door sedan traveling northbound on Carson Street approaching Robinson Street, slamming on his brakes and not using a turn signal. He then went down Robinson Street and attempted to turn southbound onto Curry Street and stopped before turning the wrong way on a one-way street. He continued westbound and turned southbound on Nevada Street without signaling, and then continued 5th street, applying brakes randomly. The vehicle was stopped. Dispatch informed the deputy that the driver of the vehicle had an unconfirmed warrant for his arrest.

As the officer approached the vehicle the man was making furtive movements toward the back seat. As the officer approached he saw a baseball bat and, concerned for his safety, ordered the man to exit the vehicle.
Officers could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and a search found a small bag of marijuana. The man told officers that he had smoked recently. A jar containing about .5 an ounce of marijuana and a bong was also found in the back seat, according to the arrest report.

He was taken to jail, asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests in which he performed with unsatisfactory results, the report states. Charges include DUI Drugs, possession of less than 1 ounce of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, improper turn and not using required turn signals. Bail: $3,000.

A 28-year-old Carson City man faces a misdemeanor contempt of court charge after he was stopped Jan 15, at 10:25 p.m. near Airport and Butti. The man was stopped after doing 40 mph in a 25 mph zone. The warrant for his arrest was for contempt issued out of Carson City Justice Court for failing to complete family vehicle safety program. Bail: $500.

A 44-year-old Minden man was transferred Jan. 15, 5:30 p.m. to Carson City Jail on a misdemeanor violation of a suspended sentence warrant from Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $3,000.

A 31-year-old Carson City man was arrested Jan. 15, 6:54 p.m. in the 900 block of Saliman on a confirmed warrant out of Carson City Justice Court for violation of a suspended sentence for failure to: report to monthly probation meetings, obtain substance abuse evaluation and providing proof of community service completion. Bail: $3,000.

A 32-year-old Silver springs man was arrested Jan. 15, 7:40 p.m. after being transferred from Lyon County Jail on a misdemeanor charge of failure to appear in court on a traffic warrant. Bail: $299.

A 43-year-old Carson City man was arrested 12:03 a.m. Jan. 15, in the 900 block of Saliman Road for failure to register as an ex-felon.

A Carson City woman was arrested at 1:45 a.m. Jan. 17 and faces misdemeanor charges of obstructing an officer and open container.
