UPDATE: A Gardnerville woman died Monday in a single vehicle crash in the southbound lane on Interstate 580 two miles north of Bowers Mansion in Washoe County, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Dorothy S. Hunter, 95, died at the scene of the accident, reported at 2:34 p.m. Hunter was driving a 2007 Silver KIA Rio, said Trooper Dave Gibson.
According to the preliminary investigation, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a concrete wall on the left shoulder and bounced off and went across all southbound travel lanes and struck the concrete wall on the right with its front. The vehicle then came to rest in two left lanes of southbound I580. Hunter was pronounced deceased at the scene and was not wearing a seat belt, said Gibson.
Speed, alcohol or drugs are not believed to be a factor in the accident. No other vehicles are believed to be involved in the accident, said Gibson.
There are three lanes in both the north and south travel lanes. The speed limit in this area is posted as 70 mph.
