Law enforcement agencies in Carson City and across Northern Nevada will team up Super Bowl Sunday and increase the number of patrol officers roads and highways looking for impaired motorists.
With a federally funded “joining forces” grant secured by the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety, additional law enforcement personnel from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Nevada Highway Patrol, and the Reno and Sparks police departments will be on overtime shifts saturating the region Sunday afternoon and evening looking for motorists who may be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
With alcohol normally consumed during large celebrations and sporting events, we want everyone who will be consuming alcohol this Super Bowl Sunday to plan their celebrations and parties safely and responsibly.
“If you plan on consuming any amount of alcohol, don’t operate a motor vehicle. And, if you are hosting a party, please be sure no one leaves the event after consuming alcohol without a safe ride home,”said Trooper Chuck Allen of the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The following safety tips and advisories are provided to prevent an alcohol-related crash or arrest from occurring:
Refrain from drinking alcohol whenever you intend on driving a motor vehicle
Designate a safe and sober driver; not the person in your group who has consumed the least amount of alcohol
Utilize public transportation such as a taxi-cab or bus to provide a safe ride to your destination
