A 13-year-old Carson Middle School girl remains in serious condition after an accident Tuesday afternoon at a South Carson Street crosswalk, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Troopers along with the Carson City Sheriff's Office and Carson City fire and ambulance were called to the accident at 3:08 p.m. just south of 10th Street. Crash investigation details indicate a silver 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by Logan Shane Olds, 22, of Carson City was traveling northbound on S. Carson Street. In the left lane approaching tow vehicle that had stopped for a pedestrian in the crosswalk, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson.
Mr. Olds switched lanes to the right lane to continue northbound when he struck a female juvenile, 13, from Carson City who as crossing Carson Street in the marked crosswalk. Mr. Olds stopped immediately after the collision and has been cooperating with law enforcement with their investigation. The juvenile was taken by Care Flight to Renown with serious head injuries. She is still in serious condition, said Gibson.
Alcohol or drugs is not believed to be a contributing factor in the cause of this collision. The right northbound lane of South Carson Street was closed for approximately three hours while the NHP investigated the crash scene.
The accident happened in an area where there have been crosswalk safety operations conducted in the past few months by the Carson City Sheriff's Office. The speed limit is 35 mph. Just about 100 yards north of the crosswalk the speed limit is 25 mph.
Trooper Doug Hildebrand of the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team (MIRT) is investigating this incident.
