A 28-year-old Carson City man faces a gross misdemeanor charge of battery on a police officer, and a misdemeanor resisting charge after he allegedly elbowed an officer in the head on Sunday morning outside of a bar.
Carlos Edwards Lopez was taken into custody following the alleged assault. His bail has been set at $4,612. Deputies were dispatched to the 300 block of North Carson Street at about 2 a.m. after there was a report of a fight in progress, according to the arrest report.
Deputies met with the patrons of the bar and several pointed out three men involved in the fight, the arrest report stated. Each of the men were either on cell phones or had their hands in their pockets when the officer began to question them. When a deputy instructed the men to put their phones down and take their hands out of their pockets, they didn't, the report stated.

Lopez did not comply with repeated commands to take his hands out of his pockets and put them behind his back, the arrest report stated. As the deputy attempted to place handcuffs on Lopez, the man allegedly raised his right shoulder, striking his right elbow to the officer's head, the arrest report stated. The officer subdued Lopez to the ground and he was cuffed. While in the patrol car, the man allegedly began to strike the interior of the vehicle, the report stated.
Dispatch advised the officer that Lopez had alternative sentencing conditions, and therefore he faces an additional charge of suspended sentence violation. The man was booked into jail and a blood alcohol test was administered in which he had a 0.154, according to the report.
