A 22-year-old Carson City man was stabbed and suffered a puncture to the lungs in a fight that happened at a New Year's Eve house party on Rex Circle late Monday night, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong reports.
The man, Adam Gaudette, was flown by Care Flight and was at last report in stable condition, said Furlong. Arrested was Leo Reyes Jacinto, 33, who faces a charge of battery with a deadly weapon. He is being held on $30,000 bail.
Furlong described the incident as a house party where the occupant was trying to clear the party out, asking Gaudette for help getting people out of a garage, where he was stabbed. As patrol officers arrived, party-goers, including adults and juveniles, scattered out of the house and were chased by several officers. The victim was found lying near a garage with a stab wound to his chest.
The arrest in the stabbing incident was among a handful of arrests made during the critical New Year's Eve and New Year's morning hours, said Furlong. He noted that the downtown Carson City bar revelers were well behaved and there were no problems to report among the establishments.
The problem was underage drinking and partying at several homes around the city, Furlong said. One home off of Chaise Court had dozens of juveniles and young adults inside who "pretty much destroyed" the interior of the home, Furlong said.
"It was like they didn't care," he said. "After we shut it down we were still grabbing children and juveniles in hiding places around the house. And when I say children I mean these kids were as young as 15 years old."
Getting at the underage drinking parties around town occupied much of the Sheriff's Office patrol force, with 10 to 14 officers, plus reserve officers and administrative staff on the ground overnight and into the early morning.
"It was an alcohol night. There's a lot of underage drinking citations," said Furlong.
The good news to report is that the number of problems at downtown bars was at a minimum, he said.
"I do know that downtown was quiet. There were not the kind of problems that are usually associated with New Year's Eve at the bars," he said. "This year it was underage children and juveniles drinking in these residential area parties."
