A 32-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 8:59 a.m. in the 1000 block of Latigo Drive on felony suspicion of dissuading a victim from calling 911 for help and domestic battery second offense, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Arrested was Gerardo Romero with a bail of $10,132. According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched Saturday night, 11:45 p.m. to the Latigo Drive location regarding a domestic battery.
Romero called the police and stated he had been battered by his wife. Romero had fled the scene prior to officers arriving. Deputies met with the woman at the residence and two children. The woman was crying with injuries to her arm and neck. She had abrasions to her left arm, light bruising on her neck and a swollen lip. She declined medical attention. An officer asked the victim to explain what happened.
She told officers that she and Romero were at a baptism party in the area. He began drinking and became aggressive and she returned home. She stated the suspect then returned from the party and confronted her, yelling and becoming aggressive. She told officers she pulled out her phone to call police. She stated Romero took the phone away from her and put it in his pocket. She said she yelled to her son to call the police. The argument turned physical, she told officers, saying Romero scratched her arm, pulled her hair, pulled her by her throat and then struck her in the lip with his hand.
She said she was unable to call for help because Romero had the phone. Deputies photographed the woman’s injuries and provided her with a domestic violence information card. Officers began to search for the man. He was found Sunday morning at the home and taken into custody.
In other arrests: A 44-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday, 8:09 p.m. in the area of East Telegraph and North Pratt on suspicion of DUI. According to the arrest report, officers stopped the woman who told them she had consumed alcohol earlier at a wedding.
She stepped out of the vehicle and agreed to field sobriety tests. The officer asked her about medical conditions and when the last time she slept. She said she last slept a couple days ago but that she had taken a nap earlier in the day. The officer continued to ask questions but the woman would not answer them and continued to tell the officer she had not slept. When the officer told her to finish with the questions, she became uncooperative.
She was arrested on suspicion of DUI. At jail she became uncooperative. A telephonic search warrant for a blood draw was granted by a Carson City judge. Bail: $1,137.
— A 21-year-old Carson City man, Javier Martinez, was arrested Saturday, 6:28 p.m. in the 3200 block of Market Street on suspicion of petit larceny and a felony probation violation charge. According to the arrest report, Walmart security detained two people for petit larceny. Security told officers he saw Martinez and a woman pass all points of pay with items valued at $39.87.
The female subject was cooperative. Store security said they did not want to pursue charges against the female because she had been honest with her identity. Martinez had not been and gave a wrong birthdate, the arrest report states.
The suspect told officers he made a mistake and apologized for what he had done. Store security stated they wanted to pursue charges for petit larceny. A records check showed the suspect was on formal probation. The Department of Parole and Probation requested that a probation violation hold be placed on him, the report states. Bail for the larceny charge: $352.
— A 27-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 7:32 p.m. in the area of Highway 50 and Golf Course Drive on a misdemeanor warrant, contempt of court, issued Jan. 8, 2008, out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $1,464.
— A 38-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 10:59 a.m. in the 3600 block of Stanton Drive for criminal contempt after allegedly drinking when he was ordered by the court not to do so. Bail: $500.
— A 21-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 4:10 a.m. in the area of Roop Street at Robinson on suspicion of DUI second and failure to maintain a lane of traffic, both misdemeanors.
According to the arrest report, officers were alerted to a reckless driver, allegedly running vehicles off the road and failing to maintain its lane of traffic. The vehicle was on I-580 and heading southbound passing College Parkway. Dispatch received continuous updates on the vehicle’s location and direction of travel.
An officer located the suspect vehicle on Roop Street and William and began following it. the vehicle was traveling southbound on Roop Street and failed to stay in the marked southbound travel lane. The officer conducted a traffic stop at Roop and Robinson streets and contacted the driver who had a strong odor of alcohol.
The officer asked the man if he had been drinking. He replied “yes, three drinks.” His speech was slurred and thick. The officer asked for the man’s driver’s license, registration and proof of insurance. He attempted to hand the officer a credit card and his registration, the report states. The officer asked the man to exit the vehicle. He stood by the driver’s side door and swayed while standing and used his vehicle for balance, the arrest report states. The officer observed six clues of impairment during standardized field sobriety tests. During the preliminary breath test the man blew a .169. He was taken into custody and chose an evidentiary blood test. Bail: $2,749.
— A 21-year-old Carson City man, Luis Alberto Mariscal, was arrested Friday, 1:21 a.m. in the 2100 block of East William Street on felony suspicion possession of a controlled substance, and three misdemeanor warrants, petit larceny, contempt of court and failure to appear, all out of Carson City Justice Court.
According to the arrest report, officers had been searching for another subject when they saw Mariscal, who had a warrant for his arrest. He was detained. During a search officers found around .1 gram of methamphetamine in a baggie. Bail: $6,795.
