A 24-year-old inmate in the Carson City Jail faces a felony charge of battery by a prisoner after a fight inside the detention facility, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, Stig Corrin Strong of Minden fought with another prisoner with Strong determined to be the primary aggressor. Video footage showed that he pushed, punched and choked another inmate. Bail: $20,000.
In other felony related arrests: A Sun Valley man, Trevor William Bergstrom, 30, and a 27-year-old Reno woman, Samantha Lorraine Benton, were arrested Saturday, on felony drug charges, a sheriff’s deputy said.
Officers made the arrest at 12:19 a.m. in the 2100 block of East William Street. Both face charges of possession of methamphetamine, a felony, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. According to the arrest report, an officer made a traffic stop because the vehicle did not have a back license plate. Berstrom also faces a charge of not having a valid vehicle registration. Bail: $3,709. Benton’s bail: $3,637.
— A 30-year-old Carson City woman, Corina Ruiz-Mora, was arrested Saturday, 2:59 a.m. in the 2700 block of South Carson Street on felony suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, criminal contempt and second time DUI. According to the arrest report, officers were called to the location and found the woman passed out in her car, with the engine running, headlights on and hands on the steering wheel. Officers knocked on the window several times.
The woman woke up and she was asked if she had a medical condition. She replied no. She was asked if she had been drinking and she said yes, the arrest report states. She agreed to standardized field sobriety tests and showed multiple clues of impairment. She was arrested. During the search officers located methamphetamine rolled in a $100 bill and a black rubber balloon in the woman’s purse, which also tested positive for methamphetamine. Bail: $5,774.
— A 23-year-old Carson City man, Gregory Lara, was arrested Friday, 7:04 p.m. in the area of Woodside and Siskiyou on felony violation of parole and probation after admitting to an officer that he had been driving around since February without vehicle registration. Before the admission, he told the officer the vehicle hasn’t been registered due to not having the bill of sale and that he bought the vehicle two weeks ago. No bail hold pending parole and probation hearing.
— A 44-year-old Dayton man, David Anthony Salazar, was arrested Friday, 6:14 p.m. in the area of Highway 50 and Lompa Lane on felony suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, and two misdemeanors: possession of drug paraphernalia and driving on expired registration.
According to the arrest report, officers conducted a traffic stop because the vehicle license plate had expired. Because of Salazar’s criminal past involving drugs, a K9 drug sniff was done on the exterior indicating narcotics inside. Officers found the following: several hypodermic devices, with one loaded, a blue meth pipe, and a scale with meth residue, according to the arrest report. Bail: $3,709.
In misdemeanor arrests:
— A 33-year-old Reno woman was arrested Friday, 10:56 p.m. in the area of Roop and Second Street on misdemeanor suspicion of DUI. Officers stopped the woman for speeding, doing 56 mph in a 40 mph zone at William and State streets, the arrest report states. The woman admitted to drinking at a Reno establishment before driving to Carson City. She showed signs of impairment during standardized field sobriety tests and new a .146 partial sample. At jail she blew three samples, a .180, .158 and .170. Bail: $1,137.
— A 58-year-old Dayton man was arrested Friday, 5:11 p.m. in the 2700 block of Highway 50 East on a misdemeanor warrant, issued Nov. 13, 2013 out of Reno Township Court. Bail: $470.
— A 25-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday, 9:27 p.m. in the 1400 block of North Edmonds Drive, on a misdemeanor charge of violation of bail conditions. The woman had been drinking, a violation of conditions. She gave a preliminary breath test of .079 and stated she had been drinking vodka. Bail: $3,000.
— A 38-year-old man was arrested Friday, 11:02 p.m. in the area of Corbett and North Carson Street on a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct. Officers stopped the man who was running down Carson Street yelling at cars. The officer observed vehicles slowing down and going around the man to avoid hitting him. He then would yell at the motorists, shouting obscenities. The officer spoke with the man, who was sweating profusely and admitted that he had used methamphetamine and was sorry for doing it. Bail: $242.
— A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 5:53 p.m. in the 1100 block of South Roop Street on three misdemeanor charges, a warrant for contempt of court, issued Feb. 11, 2015, using a cell phone while driving and not wearing a seat belt. Bail: $479.
— A 22-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 11:44 a.m. in the area of Airport and Lompa Lane on misdemeanor charges of failure to obey a traffic device and a contempt of court warrant issued Aug. 19, 2014 out of Carson City Justice Court. He was contacted by an officer for failing to stop at a stop sign. Bail: $528.
— A 48-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 1:45 p.m. in the 2000 block of North Carson Street on suspicion of second DUI, driving on a suspended registration and revoked license. the vehicle was stopped for having a suspended license plate registration. Officers could smell alcohol on the driver and asked for him to submit to standardized field sobriety tests. He had told the officer he had been drinking earlier in the morning and consumed a Vicodin for a broken tooth. He provided a preliminary breath sample of .150. Bail: $3,386.
— A 22-year-old Moundhouse woman was arrested Friday, 10:08 a.m. in the 3800 block of Highway 50 East on a misdemeanor charge, obstructing an officer. The woman lied to an officer, giving him the name of another women when he asked for identification. Bail: $337.
— A 21-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 3:41 a.m. in the 4000 block of Village Drive on a misdemeanor charge of disturbing the peace. Bail: $192.
A 42-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 11:32 p.m. in the area of Airport Road and Carmine on misdemeanor charges of possession of an ounce or less of marijuana and a criminal contempt violation. Bail: $1,237. A 58-year-old woman with him was arrested on a contempt of court warrant issued March 26, 2015 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $500.
— A 21-year-old Dayton man was arrested Saturday, 10:32 a.m. on Highway 50 East on suspicion of DUI, speeding, 75 mph in a 55 mph zone and failure to maintain a single lane of traffic. Officers conducted the traffic stop after radar confirmed the man was driving 75 and was swerving into the middle lane of traffic. He was asked to submit to field sobriety tests and failed each tests, the arrest report states. Bail: $1,376.
— A 48-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday, 6:54 p.m. in the 4000 block of Village Drive on suspicion of domestic battery. According to the arrest report, the woman got into an argument with her daughter’s boyfriend. The man said the woman pushed and ripped his necklace from around his neck. Officers could see slight red coloration around the man’s neck. Witnesses at the residence said they saw the woman grab the man by his shoulders, shaking and pushing him. It was determined that the woman was the primary aggressor and she was arrested: Bail: $3,137.
— A 34-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 9:28 p.m. in the 3800 block of South Carson Street on suspicion of misdemeanor battery. According to the arrest report, officers were called to a restaurant for a fight. The suspect reportedly left on food and walked toward a bar in the 3600 block of South Carson Street.
Officer located the man, who said the argument started with his fiancé’s mother’s boyfriend. The argument happened because the fiancé’s mother’s boyfriend was trying to give the suspect a ride home due to his intoxication. The suspect admitted that he punched the man several times because he felt threatened. The victim was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Several people wrote statements about the incident. Bail: $1,137.
Those arrested on criminal charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
