A 58-year-old man was arrested Saturday by Carson City sheriff's deputies on suspicion of being in possession of a firearm on school grounds and stalking, both gross misdemeanor offenses.
The Minden man was at a track meet at Carson High School and was stalking a female student, whom he made contact with a week prior, according to the arrest report. The man handed the student a business card, telling her: "Text me, hey, when you feel the time is right."
The girl's father intervened, threw the card back at the man and told him to stay away from his daughter. The man replied to the father: "I think she likes me," according to the arrest report.
The victim told officers she was afraid of the man and believes he has been stalking her since she was a freshmen in high school when he first made contact with her at a sporting event in Douglas County, the arrest report states.
The victim signed a citizen's arrest form against the man for stalking. The man was advised of his Miranda rights and he was detained, stating he understood his rights.
He continued to talk to officers and admitted he had been stalking the girl for more than three years. An officer asked the man if he knew how old the victim was and the man said she is 18 years old and he was doing nothing wrong because "she's an adult now," the arrest report states.
The man told officers the victim is friends with his daughters who go to the same school. He further told officers that he knows the teen's birth date because he found it on Facebook, and that she and him can now have a relationship, the arrest report states.
The man admitted he drove onto school grounds with a firearm, a 357 Magnum handgun, which was found, along with duct tape, inside his truck. He faces the following gross misdemeanor charges: Possession of a firearm on school grounds and stalking. He faces a misdemeanor charge of loitering and causing a nuisance on school grounds. — A 29-year-old Carson City man was taken into custody Saturday, 10:40 p.m. on suspicion of misdemeanor larceny and being in violation of his probation after allegedly attempting to steal several items of merchandise from Walmart. The man was confronted in the parking lot of the Market Street store by security and took off running. He was located in the 600 block of Hot Springs Road. Bail: $3,352.
— A 44-year-old Carson City woman was arrested April 26, 8:29 p.m. in area of Fairview and East Fifth Street on a failure to appear warrant for her arrest on a traffic violation issued April 23, and speeding. The woman was clocked on radar doing 58 mph down Saliman Road. Bail: $362.
— A 24-year-old Carson City woman was arrested April 26, 10:14 p.m. in the 400 block of East William Street on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge. According to the arrest report, the victim, a man, said his girlfriend kicked in the French doors to their apartment, punched him in the head with a closed fist and picked up a lamp, threatening to hit him with it. The man had a quarter size knot on the back side of his head and scratches on the left side of his face. The woman denied hitting him. Bail: $3,137.
— A Fallon man was arrested Saturday, 8:56 p.m. on William Street on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI, open container and following too close. According to the arrest report, the man was tailing a Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team patrol car.
The officer sped past the man and then pulled him over. Seeing that he had chewing tobacco all over his mouth and shirt and that he smelled of alcohol, the officer asked the man how much he had to drink. The man replied "nothing." The man was asked to exit the vehicle. Officers observed a large bottle of Mike's Hard Lemonade on the floorboard that had been opened.
The man was asked to do standardized field sobriety tests in which the man decline. He was taken to jail and, after the Nevada Implied Consent law was read to him he said he did not understand. He chose to have a blood test for the BAC. Bail: $1,361.
— A 36-year-old man, David Loving, and 33-year-old Carson City woman were arrested Saturday, 10:50 p.m. in the 3400 block of Highway 50 East. Loving was arrested on a felony charge of possession of around 2 grams of methamphetamine and misdemeanor paraphernalia. Bail: $3,500. She was arrested on misdemeanor warrant charges of contempt of court and violation of a suspended sentence. Bail: $8,000.
— A 56-year-old Ceres, Calif., man was arrested April 25, 3:50 a.m. in the intersection of South Saliman and East Fifth Street in Carson City. He faces misdemeanor charges of DUI and speeding. Bail: $1,249.
— A Carson City woman, Stephanie Lee Baumgardner, was arrested April 24, 11:10 p.m. in the 600 block of Hot Springs Road on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor violation of pre-trial conditions.
According to the arrest report, officers with the Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team were tipped off that Baumgardner had been shoplifting from and defrauding Walmart and that there was drug activity going on in her apartment.
Officers went to the apartment where she arrived with three bags from the store. Officers asked to see the receipt for her trip to the store. When several of the pieces of merchandise were not on the receipt she was read her Miranda rights in which she agreed to speak. She advised that the items not on the receipt she stole from Walmart and put them in her purse, the arrest report states.
Officers contacted Alternative Sentencing for a request to search the apartment since Baumgardner was on probation. Alternative Sentencing allowed the search. Inside the home officers found a clear baggie with a small amount of methamphetamine. She was arrested on the felony drug possession charge and misdemeanor probation violation. Bail: $5,500.
— A 30-year-old Silver Peak man was booked into Carson City Jail April 24 on a warrant, violation of conditions, issued Feb. 18, 2014 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $1,000.
— A 40-year-old Carson City woman was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor petit larceny 5:45 p.m. in the 3300 block of Highway 50 East. The woman allegedly attempted to steal two fried chickens and a bottle of Smirnoff vodka, valued at $34.35 from a grocery store. Bail: $320.
— A 19-year-old Carson City man was arrested 1 a.m. April 27 at Carson and Winnie Streets on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license. Bail: $192.
— A 53-year-old Carson City man was arrested April 25, 11:57 p.m. in the 200 block of Winters on misdemeanor charges of DUI second offense and hit and run causing injury. The man allegedly was driving and his vehicle hit the passenger side of another vehicle, causing significant damage. The victim was able to get the plates from the vehicle and reported them to Carson City sheriff's deputies. Officers arrived at the home in which the plates were said the person resided. He was arrested and was, according to the arrest report, grossly intoxicated. Bail: $3,274.
— A 58-year-old Carson City man was arrested April 25, 6:30 p.m. in the 500 block of North Carson Street. He faces a misdemeanor charge of failing to register as a convicted felon. Bail: $242.
— A 29-year-old man, Joshua Sunquist, was booked April 25 into Carson City Jail on a felony charge of being in violation of his conditions and a misdemeanor warrant, contempt of court.
After running a criminal history check, the arresting deputy discovered the man was a sex offender with five DONS.
One of the man's conditions was to take his prescribed mental health medications. During booking, the man advised that he had not been taking his prescribed medications, according to the arrest report.
He is being held without bail based on the felony charge in which he will appear in court. $3,000 cash bail for the misdemeanor charge.
Those arrested and facing charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
