Former Carson City School Board Trustee Joe Enge has been sentenced to serve weekends in jail for the next four months after he violated his bail conditions stemming from another drunk driving arrest.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to Enge’s residence off Northridge Drive earlier this month on a report of a domestic dispute. When deputies got there, Enge had left with his young son in the car. Deputies caught up with Enge at a residence on Muldoon in south Carson City. Deputies say Enge was obviously intoxicated and blew a .173 blood alcohol level, more than twice the level of presumed drunk driving. Enge denied he drove drunk. He claimed he drank only after he arrived at the Muldoon address. Because Enge’s bail conditions prohibited drinking alcohol, he was arrested and taken to jail.
Enge was also ordered to undergo compulsory alcohol abuse counseling.
Enge is a former Carson High School history teacher during which time he was very vocal about his dissatisfaction with the way he was compelled to teach American History courses. While a school board trustee, Enge was a consistent critic of American schools and had been a frequent contributor to conservative political publications.
Enge had been arrested a number of times on charges of drunk driving, some in Lyon County, one in Las Vegas and two in Carson City. On technicalities, some did not hold up in court.
Enge resigned his school board seat after this latest incident.
