A 47-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 2:40 a.m. in the area of Telegraph and Stewart streets on misdemeanor charges of DUI, open container and possession of drug paraphernalia, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, officers were dispatch to the area for a suspicious vehicle. The reporting witness said a man was inside the vehicle, possibly intoxicated and was unable to put the vehicle into drive. Deputies arrived and found the red Jeep stopped in the middle of the roadway. The vehicle was running and the lights were on. The deputy walked up to the vehicle and contacted the driver. The vehicle was a manual transmission and he was trying to put the vehicle in gear to drive but couldn’t.

The officer asked the man to turn off the vehicle. He smelled strongly of alcohol and his speech was slurred. The officer asked for identification and the man took out business cards from his wallet and handed them to the deputy. He then took money from his wallet and put it on his lap and then picked up the money and put it back into his wallet. He was unable to find his driver’s license in his wallet, the arrest report states.

The deputy asked the man to step out of the vehicle and submit to field sobriety tests. When he exited the vehicle he tripped and the deputy had to grab on to him to stop him from falling. He was unable to maintain his balance while walking and the officer continued to hold him so he would not fall. While walking to the curb, the officer saw a shiny metal object in his back pocket. He was checked for weapons and the metal object was identified as a flask of alcohol.

He submitted to field sobriety tests which indicated impairment and a preliminary breath test in which he did not provide an adequate breath sample. He did puff into the machine with a .134, the arrest report states. He was arrested for suspicion of DUI.

The officer searched the man and asked if he had drugs or paraphernalia on him. He said he had a marijuana pipe in his pocket. The officer found the pipe and placed the man in the back of the patrol car and read him a request for voluntary evidence. The man told the deputy he wasn’t going to “f**king submit” to anything. He was taken to jail. During transport he kept repeating he was two blocks away from his home and yelled profanities at the deputy, the arrest report states.

A telephonic search warrant was requested and accepted by a judge for an evidentiary blood draw. Bail: $2,466.

In other arrests: A 58-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Thursday, 6:39 p.m. in the 2800 block of Dori Way on a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery. According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the residence where the reporting victim said he had been battered by his caregiver and former girlfriend.

Deputies arrived and observed the female suspect attempting to enter through the front door of the residence. The woman confirmed she had been drinking and had gotten into an altercation with the man who is disabled. She said she was doing dishes when the man began to call her derogatory names. She said she yelled at him, and the man used his hand to push the left side of her face, the arrest report states. She said the push angered her even more so she shoved the man which caused him to fall backwards onto the ground.

A deputy met with the victim who said that he had heard the woman doing dishes and approached her. He told the officer she broke a drinking glass and threw one of the broken pieces at him, hitting him in the chest. He said he had to put his arm up in an attempt to prevent the glass from hitting his face. He said the woman then pushed him backwards causing him to fall into the counter, knocking over a knife block and landing on the floor. He said the woman left the residence and he called 911.

Deputies observed the kitchen to be in disarray, with broken glass all over the kitchen floor and knives strewn about, consistent with the victim’s statements. The woman was unable to tell the officer how the glass was broken and why it was all over the floor. She was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery. Bail: $3,137.
