A 44-year-old Carson City man faces gross misdemeanor child endangerment charges after he drank a bottle of vodka and began verbally abusing his children at a Saliman Road apartment.
Deputies were dispatched on Saturday to the Carson City Walgreens on East Williams after three visibly scared, barefoot children asked a store employee for help because their father was at home, drunk and they were afraid of him.
When deputies arrived at the Walgreens they saw the children were huddled together, crying in an aisle next to the entrance. Two of the children, ages 12 and 13, stated their father had been drinking vodka for several hours and began to berate and verbally abuse at them, according to the arrest report.
Hoping to sober him up, the girls made their father some coffee, but instead he berated them for that. The children left all of their belongings at the apartment and were barefoot when officers found them in the store. The man's sister was contacted by deputies, who told them that her brother becomes "very violent" when he drinks.
Deputies went to the apartment and found the man passed out. Once deputies were able to wake him up, the man couldn't walk straight or speak clearly. The man willingly provided a breath sample which resulted in a .300 percent blood alcohol level. The man became uncooperative with officers and began to resist arrest. He was placed under arrest.
The man was placed into cuffs and taken to jail. He faces child endangerment charges. Bail has been set at $2,632.
