Because of frigid, single digit overnight temperatures, the Carson City emergency warming shelter at Fuji Park will remain open Monday and Tuesday nights, said Beth McCready-White, client services manager of Friends In Service Helping, also known as FISH, which operates the shelter.
The shelter will be open from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. on both nights. If people need a ride they can meet at FISH, 138 E. Long Street, 6 p.m. and the FISH shuttle will take them to Fuji Park. Guests will be then transported back to FISH at 7 a.m.
The shelter will take people who are intoxicated, but do not have any alcohol or drugs in their possession; who have pets that will be under their owner’s supervision; who have no shelter available to them; who are not a danger to themselves or others. The shelter has volunteers who will be supervising the warming shelter.
